if you want something to work right away, you should just do the tampon thing and tuck in the string.
if you are already on or would like to start some type of birth control...for the next time...you can talk to your ob/gyn about using one of the types that can help to prolong your menstral cycle.
i.e...
There is the shot, which you will get an injection every 3 months. Your period can stop as long as you are on it, but for some people they will have bleeding once in a while,. Also may cause weight gain.
Seasonale is a new type of pill where you take it continuously and you only get your cycle 4 times a year. But you can also do this with any type of pill.
There may be other types but these are the 2 I know most about cause I have tried them both.

There are several new birth control methods on the market now, and not all of them are pills. There are patches and rings that you insert into your vagina that emit hormones. Also there is the depo-provera injection which is given every 3 months. YOu need to speak with your physician to decide which is best for you, but all in all, stopping your periods simply because you are a dancer isn't a good idea. That's why man invented tampons. Just tuck in the string!

Sorry I only know of 2 methods of stopping periods, and you can only do this periodically for a special event, both involve taking pills.
Either you can run 2 packs of the oral contraceptive together. This results in 42 days without a period, or you can take norithisterone, a non-contraceptive progesterone.
The Mirena coill may stop periods in a percentage of women, but it takes 3-12 months to do this.

Get the Mirena coil fitted. It takes up to 6 months for your periods to stop and you will only get spotting untill then. In the mean time you will have to use a tampon, but I would say that was the best option!

i have had the merina coil since after having mu 2nd baby. it reduces blood flow to just spotting (i only wear a pantyliner and dont get much show on it) and after a while it can stop it all together. but i think you can only have it after you have had a child due to your cervix being looser or something. but i have heard of people having the coil prior to babies so you might be bable to. go to the docs and have a word and see what they say.
hope this helps

Train harder. Those that do sport at international level find their periods stops. Not sure how it works but something do do with body fat dropping below a treshold and that in turn affect hormones from the little i remember.
Alternatively use a natual sponge ;-)

My daughter was on the deprovera shot for birth control and it totally eliminates periods. She was on it for 7 years. She would go to the GYN every 3 months for the shots.
