I would like to believe in the basic idea of "reap what you sow", but the older I get, the more disillusioned I become.
Energy is neither created or destroyed, only transferred. But I think the re-distribution of positive or negative energy is pretty haphazard.
(Except, of course, when there is clearly an objective cause-and-effect; like driving over a nail later has the negative effect of causing a flat tire, it's not like you drove over the nail and got a flat as some sort of cosmic punishment for being rude to someone earlier in the day or something.)

I believe a little of both. It rains on the good as well as the bad, and often you can be at the wrong place at the wrong time and something unexpected happens. There are times all the elements just line up against you and wham. However, there is an old saying I heard often as a kid, you can't stir Sh--, and sooner or later not expect to get some on you. So in other words if you go looking for trouble eventually it will find you.

I don't necessarily believe that what goes around comes around in the sense that I don't think there is a mystical energy that will plague you with bad fortune if you do bad things. However, I do believe that if you do bad things in general over a long period of time, you will end up paying for it. Your friendships, career, interests, life projects, associations, may all be put into jeopardy because people will tend to avoid people that do bad things and so you'll be left on your own or will simply attract other bad people. So if you do one bad thing will you pay for it? Probably not. But if you do a series of bad things, it will come back to you.

It seems so, bad things happen all the time to people, but when you do something mean or nasty to some else it does seem to come back at you, I'm a believer of Karma, if you do something nice to or for someone take notice and see if something nice doesn't happen to you. Keep tract next time you do something nice or nasty and write it down, and then when something good happens write that down also, you'll see a pattern. One little example, I was doing so bad at the casino, and was just about broke, I don't believe in praying to win money, so I said, If I win I'm going to donate a percentage of the winning to St. Jude's five minutes later I hit the jackpot, no lie, and of course I donated to St. Jude's

Bad things happen regardless. But I think "deserving it" has nothing to do with anything. The people sufferring in Iraq or dying in Africa of starvation isn't because they deserve it.
Here is one of my favorite quotes:
"I used to think it was a terrible thing that life was so unfair. Then I thought, 'what if life *were* fair, and all of the terrible things that happen to us came because we really deserved them?' Now I take great comfort in the general unfairness and hostility of the universe."

The older I get the more I believe in Karma, that what goes around comes around. But I think there's an element of self-fulfilling prophesy in it, too. I think that mean people tend to do things that bring bad consequences to them. I think good people tend to do things that bring good consequences to them. Bad things still happen to good people, and vice versa, but I think we all do things that influence the likelihood that one or the other will happen.

I take a bit more of a Calvinist aproach as I think a soverign God has everything planned out. Even so, this ol' world is cursed and bad things are bound to happen. Also, we reap what we sow. That's the Christian view, which is similar to Karma in a way.

I believe in what goes around comes around because I think we are all meant to experience good and bad in life as lessons so we understand pain and joy.

Energy is neither created nor destroyed. It is only moved around. If you do bad things and give out negative energies, bad things will in turn happen to you and the negative energies will come back to you. If you do good things and put out good energies, good things will happen to you and your good energy will return.

Unfortunately, your position absolves the individual of any responsibility for their behaviour. Either a god made it happen or a satanic spirit. Geez.
Inflicting pain on another is a choice by one person against another. Blaming a spirit is irresponsible.
Or as Geraldine Jones would say "the devil made me do it."
