It's just a tradename like Klenex for tissue, and Jello for Geletin. But IBM sold the name ThinkPad. Lenovo now uses that name, and it is not as good.

You probably realize that you used the word laptop and notebook in the same sentance to refer to a portable device. Both of these words mean the same thing, but are generic in nature. And for gosh sakes, don't use a laptop in your lap... that DELL laptop might have Exploding Batteries.

So get a Toshiba or HP.

ThinkPad is just a model name, Notebook is a general description of a portable computer.
