i came home to find three fish swimming
it took me a while to find that one of the neon tetras was on the ground dead. the other one was staring into space or so it seemed.
i added some stress coat, and fed them, the gold barb and the bloodfin are fine except the neon thats still alive just goes to the food and brushes it away.

whats wrong with it?
how can i help it??

it still had its vibrant colors. even after it died.
im assuming it was from stress since i installed a heater yesterday and was careless about it :(

but as noted before i added stresscoat (better late then never)
the other neon seems to be swimming around now. cuz becoreit was moving in one corner.

If you added a heater and it was incorrectly set and over heated the tank, then you are most likely correct that it's related to stress. The best course of action is to make sure the heater is properly adjusted and keeping the tank at a comfortable temperature and allowing the other neon to relax a bit and get over the stress. Keep the tank light off for about 24 hours to help him feel more comfortable and safe.

Did you notice if the dead neon lost its colour was it whitish, if so that you have neon tetra disease running around in your tank and you need to seperate your neons ASAP as shortly they will pass it on to the other fish... There is not cure to this disease unfortunatly... Go to the URL below for more details

If not maybe your water isnt the best at the moment, give your tank a clean and see if that does the trick

Neons die genuinely. As reported petcos fish arent good. maximum interior sight fish shops quarantine there fish an you not often see ineffective ones interior the tank. At petco they do no longer quarantine there fish and that they've greater rigidity from the transport technique. The cycle reported above is fairly considerable. i did no longer have this difficulty while installation my tank as a results of fact I basically took a filter out bag from a cycled tank and enable it run interior the water for a on a similar time as. good success

if you only had 2 or 3 neons thats why. they need at least 6 or 10 to be comfortable. they are schooling fish. and if they started getting faded colors and crappy looking fins and straying away from the school they have the neon tetra disease and will all die. sorry no cure for that disease most neons nowadays are not hardy at all.

it's possible that it might be some internal diseases, and another possibility is the heater it might got shocked.but according to the description taht you have posted,i think he was likely shocked, because it didn't lose it's color.if it's because of the disease the carcass would be pale.

how long have you had your tank? is it cycled? neons don't do well as "starter fish". they prefer a tank more established.

when did you put the NT's in the tank? or have you had them a while?

why did it die? IS the water bad? maybe they are ill also.
maybe the food is bad, so try and replace it and clean the tank and change the water.

Maybe they caught something from the dead one.
