I have a white shirt, and Im dying it green, but I need to leave a name and a number on it. Would I use masking tape on the inside and outside of the shirt? Or does someone have a better idea

try using wax to write the number and name on the shirt... then dye it, the dye wont get under the wax. then after your done u can take the wax off.
hope it works out for u! xoxo

No, masking tape won't do the trick because the dye will get wicken in by the fabric. Let me think... You need to prevent the dye from soaking the fabric in that place... Try some kind of fat maybe... Better yet, go to a fabric and crafts store (Like Joann's Fabrics) and buy a temporary fabric glue. Write the letters in glue using a q-tip or a match. Do the dyeing (have to be quick, or the glue will dissolve). Wash the glue out. Try it on a test peice first.

Candle wax would be perfect, but taking it out later is hard.

you can use vasoline to cover the area that you don't want dyed (name & number) then use a spray bottle filled with the green dye and spry it. you can't soak it because the dye will get on the back side of the material and ruin your name and number (try it first on an old piece of white cloth)

If you can figure out some way to tie off the parts you want to stay white, like they do when tie-dying, that would work really well. Or you could do the opposite and write the name & number in permanent ink...

Umm maybe like duct tape since its stronger than masking tape. Packing tape might work too
