In mythology, greek I believe, there is someone who has to spend eternity pushing a boulder up a mountain only to have it roll down again and he has to start over???

And why does it feel like I'm stuck in the same situation with my laundry?

Sisyphus. He was a crafty man, and founder of the city that would later become Corinth, also a murderous busybody that liked to spy on Zeus.

It was his tattling on Zeus that got him sentenced to Tartarus moving that rock. It didn't matter that Zeus was a skirt-chasing, cradle-robbing hound, Sisyphus was overstepping his bounds (as a mortal) by telling on the "king of the gods". His trickery and his sass earned his "place" in Tartarus for all the "grief" he had caused the gods and humans.

Laundry? Did you forget the dishes? That never stops piling up either!

Sisyphus. And we all have such tasks, whether it be paperwork, housework or oil changes. The trick is not to let it define your existence. Sisyphus needed to build his confidence by starting with smaller tasks that he could accomplish. Then the big rock disaster wouldn't upset him so much.

Sisyphus is the name of the man who, being punished in Hades, rolls a stone for ever. See:

All forms of slavery and bonds, starting with the basic necessities of life, are presided by Necessity (Ananke) - a powerful goddess with a stern law:

Sisyphus
And in answer to your second question, because you don't live in a nudist colony. LOL.
If you have kids, because I swear they manage to wear half their clothes each and every day.
