I hope all of you saying Eragon is "the best" or even remotely good are no older than 12. It is without a doubt the worst piece of published fiction EVER, it is completely plagiarized from Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings, and it's just terribly written, yes Christopher Paolini, you used a thesaurus, that's fantastic, but guess what, you are incredibly see-through.

Best fantasy book I've ever read? The Two Towers, the second of the Lord of the Rings.

There are three books (a trilogy or sorts) by Nick Bantock, which are postcards between two people: Griffin & Sabine. These include the following:
Griffin & Sabine: An Extraordinary Correspondence
Sabine's Notebook
The Golden Mean

Besides being swept up in the correspondence between the two, the artwork and calligraphy are gorgeous. There are tapes to go w/the books. Yes, tapes, because they were written in 1991, 1992, & 1993, respectively. They even include real envelopes and other ephemera.

Lord of the Rings
David Eddings' The Belgariad (5 book series)
David Eddings' The Mallorean (5 book series)
David Eddings' The Elenium (3 book series)
Stephen R. Donaldson Mordant's Need (2 book series)
Anything by Terry Pratchett

I have to admit that I really liked the Wheel of Time books at first, but when the series hit book 11, I stopped reading, and now I call it "The Never Ending Wheel of Time" because I don't think Robert Jordan is ever going to finish the story. :)

quite try Tamora Pierce books. She's written a number of mini-sequence arranged interior an identical international. Alanna: the 1st journey, interior the arms of the Goddess, the lady Who Rides Like a guy, and Lioness Rampant are the books interior the 1st mini-sequence. Holly Black's present day fairy tale sequence beginning with Tithe seems to be something you desire. Libba Bray's sequence commencing with a super and undesirable elegance is splendidly creepy and captivating. you may desire to attempt it! something by using Diana Wynne Jones is absolute to be an especially stable e book. i elect to advise attempting fireplace and Hemlock or Howl's moving castle first. maximum of her sequence are quite small yet she's written a lot of books, that's very just about like a team! The Hero and the Crown by using Robin McKinley is a delusion classic and a super e book. She's written a team of others, too, that I additionally advise. Her vampire novel, Sunshine, exhibits quite different vampires from Twilight besides the undeniable fact that this is nonetheless stable. Garth Nix's old Kingdom trilogy is wonderful! It starts with Sabriel and is going to Lirael and then Abhorsen. quite try those! i desire this facilitates you!

I've got too many to list. But my current favorites are Jim Butcher's "Codex Alera" Books and Lorna Freeman's "Borderlands" Series. Both series aren't complete yet though. So, if you're thinkin of reading either of them, I suggest you wait a few years until all the books are out and the series are complete. It's just too aggravating to wait., wondering what happens next because both authors like to end their books with a cliffhanger.

Other than these, you could try Tamora Pierce's books. Her "Wild Magic" series is one of my all time favorites. The other books aren't too bad either... ;)
