FIBROMYALGIA
It is a painful condition often associated with illness or injury. It mainly affects the muscles. The affected muscles become sore and tender to the touch. Exposure to damp and cold are frequent causes, but any injury to joints or muscles may bring in this condition. It begins suddenly, and the pain usually feels worse when the muscles are used.
People with this condition cannot sleep at night due to pain. Their muscles begin to ache at night and their sleep is disturbed on account of pain.
Normally, when people sleep, they enter the stage-four sleep, which produces deep relaxation, and their muscles naturally turn off. But people with fibromyalgia don't enter stage-four sleep. As a result, their muscles don't rest properly and they ache.
Most common symptoms of fibromyalgia are pain, tenderness of the muscles, extreme fatigue and general weakness.
HOME REMEDIES: FIBROMYALGIA
* Bog bean works as an anti-inflammatory, eating this herb or taking the herb in a supplement form can help in combating pain.
* Ginger is also known for its properties in fighting joint pain and stiffness.
* Take two teaspoons of lemon juice and a teaspoon of honey in a cup of warm water twice daily. It is highly effective for the treatment of pain.
* Half teaspoon of turmeric powder taken with warm water twice a day is also beneficial in curing fibromyalgia
* Drinking alfalfa tea twice daily is also helpful for the treatment of joint pains.
* Radish juice mixed with sugar is also helpful to fight with muscle pains.
* Drinking 15 grams of fresh bathu juice daily with an empty stomach without adding any salt or sugar to it helps in reducing the symptoms of fibromyalgia.
* A cup of papaya seed tea taken six or seven times daily for two or three weeks gives relief in the joint pains.
* Eat porridge of 2 teaspoonfuls of winter cherry with ghee and molasses with an empty stomach for 15 days.
* A tablespoon of fruit pectin in a small glass of cranberry juice taken every morning gives relief.
* A person suffering from pain should eliminate sugar, white flour, macaroni, pie, cake, and sweet drinks from diet.
* A drink consisting of four raw finely sliced beets soaked in a quart of berry wine for one day. Drink one small glass of this liquid before meals, three times a day.
* Dissolve 4 teaspoons of blackstrap molasses in one quart of cranberry juice and drink one glass everyday.
* Two parts pure olive oil and one part kerosene makes a wonderful solution to be applied on the affected muscles.
* Add one-tablespoon cod liver oil to the juice of one orange, and drink before going to bed.
* Rubbing the aching joints with hot vinegar before going to bed also gives relief to the pain.
* Mix 2 tablespoons mullein, 3 of granulated slippery elm bark, one of lobelia, 1-teaspoon cayenne. Use boiling water to make paste. Spread on cloth and place on swollen joints.
* Bake one or two egg- plants. Mash and fry in about 2 tablespoons of castor oil. Spices like cumin, coriander, turmeric, garlic and salt can be added while frying. Take once daily for two to three months for relief.
* Another herb known as Guggulu is very helpful in curing muscle pains. If available, eat half a teaspoon twice a day after meals with warm water. ·Paste of 1 teaspoon red chilies and fresh ginger mixed in half a cup of sesame oil and strain. Gently rub this oil on the affected muscles. Camphor, wintergreen and cinnamon oils are also beneficial for external application.
* A vegetable-juice fast significantly reduces pain for many patients with fibromyalgia. Carrot juice, celery juice, cabbage juice, or tomato juice can be used
* Application of hot packs and ice packs for 10 minutes also provides relief from joint pains.
* A combination of burdock, slippery elm, sheep sorrel and Turkish rhubarb was shown good results in improving fibromyalgia.
* Soak Spiegel seeds in water, make a paste and apply it on the joints for quick relief from pain.
* Omega 3 fatty acids reduce inflammation of joints. Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in salmon, sardines, other oily fish, walnuts, flax, soy, olive oil, nuts, and avocados.
* Pine-bark and grape-seed extracts are natural anti-inflammatory that help to ease pain .
* Topical applications of cayenne (capsicum) powder mixed with wintergreen oil can help relieve muscle pain.
* Dandelion reduces frequency and intensity of pain and strengthens the connective tissue. Take 1 tbsp. Juice or 1-cup tea twice daily for four to six weeks
* Willow bark has anti-inflammatory properties and works as a painkiller.
MYOFASCIAL PAIN:
Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) share a number of symptoms, and the names are often used interchangeably in the medical literature. While it is possible to have both fibromyalgia and myofascial pain, there are definite differences. One difference is that more women than men have fibromyalgia, though the ratio of men to women who have myofascial pain syndrome is equal. Also, in fibromyalgia, the muscles have generalised sensitivity, while with myofascial pain, the muscle areas that are located away from the trigger points and their referral regions have normal sensitivity. With fibromyalgia, there is total body achiness, while with myofascial pain there are specific pains in specific areas. With myofascial pain, the areas not affected by trigger points do not hurt, though with fibromyalgia, the areas outside the tender points still ache. Fibromyalgia is a neuroendocrine disorder while myofascial pain is a neuromuscular condition.
Coenzyme Q10
Coenzyme Q10 has long been prescribed for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome patients. CoQ10 is a potent antioxidant that aids in metabolic reactions including the process of forming ATP, the molecule the body uses for energy. Virtually every cell in the body contains CoQ10. It is concentrated in the mitochondria, the area of the cells where energy is produced.
NADH
NADH (reduced B-nicotanimide dinucleotide) is a coenzyme molecule formed from vitamin B3 (niacin). NADH (along with CoQ10) is essential for the production of energy (ATP) in a process called oxidative phosphorylation.
L-Carnitine
Several studies have found deficiencies of the amino acid L-carnitine in patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, although other studies fail to confirm this. L-carnitine is known to boost energy levels. The lack of consistency in the research literature suggests that there may be a number of marginal nutritional deficiencies that have etiologic relevance to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. These deficiencies may include carnitine along with the B-complex vitamins, essential fatty acids, L-tryptophan, zinc, magnesium, and others.
Magnesium
Magnesium, a mineral utilized by every cell of the body, participates in energy metabolism and protein synthesis. The body vigilantly protects blood magnesium levels, in part because 350 enzymatic processes depend upon magnesium status for activation. Magnesium is stored in tissues and bone, sharing skeletal residency with calcium and phosphorus.

Diet rich in dark green leafy veggies and high in omega-3 fatty acids coupled with exercise can have a positive impact on Fibromyalgia when inflammation is a factor. Plus, it's just plain healthy. 8~) Therapeutic massage can often reduce the severity of the aches associated with Fibro. Acupuncturist commonly treat fibromyalgia with very good results.

Wow, I seem to be answering a variant of this question pretty often recently...
Here's what works for me. It's not fool proof, I still have bad days, and I still have flares, but it helps.
Diet can be crucial. Limit processed foods, sugar, caffeine, etc. Drink plenty of water, eat plenty of fresh fruits and veggies.
Supplements help. I take a magnesium/malic acid combo from solaray that does wonders (also has 5htp, valerian root, a nice combo). I take fish oil (1000 mg 3x a day, Pure Encapsulations brand- very high quality and no mercury worries) Happy Campers are great for those days when stress is an issue (they are a life saver some days)
Self care is important. Sleep enough, rest enough, take time for yourself. Use heat and ice as often as you feel the need. Check into the Theracane and trigger point workbooks.
Massage and chiropractic are lifesavers. Maybe see about getting a portable electric stim machine, mine is enough to keep me mobile some days...
Exercise, although painful, is mandatory. Walk, stretch, swim, do Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, maybe even check out the miracle ball, while it's not all that great as an exercise the little balls do a great job of releasing tension from your low back and hips.
Stay comfortable. I know I'm beginning to sound like a sales pitch, but MBT shoes are awesome. They are ugly, and unreasonably expensive, but they mean that I can actually go shopping in Target or at the mall and not have to sit down every few minutes. I went to an aquarium recently and didn't have to stop once, it meant a lot to be able to do that. I've actually been able to make it across campus in them without having to stop and rest my back!
There are a number of other supplements people recommend, this is just what works for me.

Ramesh1938, you are full of crap. There is no evidence to suggest that Fibromyalgia leads to drug addiction. Fibromyalgia is NOT a symptom of mental anguish or narcissism. It has nothing to do with getting sympathy from others. Please, pull your head out of your behind and go crawl back under your rock.

I posted on here about 2 months ago about weird symptoms and they finally pinned it down to Fibro. Go see a Dr. of Oriental Medicine!!! No narcotics, all natural herbs that are not expensive and you aren't FORCED to buy them at the Dr.s office if you don't want. (Some are hard to find outside though, and even then, not much a difference in price). These herbs (atleast my doses) are about 15 pills per day, but again, they are 100% natural. They help with all over pain, fatigue and for me I have swelling in my joints, especially my hands.
Feel better! It's a pain to live with! I had it or years and nobody could figure it out or took me seriously. I will post the names of the Japanese herbs I'm aking via a comment, but that was formulated just for me... You would have to see your own Doc that practices Oreintal Medicine to get a regime just for you. (They aren't expensive and do go to school + medschool, etc so they aren't quacks).
By the way, don't listen to AM unless you want to catch yourself on fire, get fat or smell disgusting and make your bed stink for good. I've tried some of those and the others are simply stupid. Rub Kerosene on ones self? Heck, my not take a bath in it and lite up a cig? Oyeeee. I suffer from it badly and you grabbed every "tale" available on the net. Don't give the girl false hope because that is ALL IT IS. The disease is highly misunderstood and rarely treated well. They recognized it in Japan 50 years before we could even put a name to it and they do not suggest taking manufactured crap, the solutions they suggest are actual tree roots, etc....... tasty? no Gag worthy? no Just something you can take in compressed pill format or take in the raw format and simmer it in a broth or coffee, which ever way is easiest for you.
Again, kerosene? How old are you? Just a point surfer I'm guessing by your childish answers and I find it HIGHLY insulting seeing that I suffer from it and was stupid enough to buy into the garbage in the beginning when I was hopeless.

Hi fellow sufferer. I have fibromyalgia and poli-arthritis and have been on medication for many years. I thought the drugs were not working until I tried to stop taking them. I have stopped all dairy produce, don't eat anything containing wheat and have very little if any red meat. I can tell you that for me at least, the effect has been dramatic. I have far less pain, don't have to rest in the afternoon (which was a great problem) and sleep better. Of course, it isn't cured, but any relief is a godsend as I am sure you will agree. Try it and I hope very much that you get as much benefit as I do. Its not easy at the start as you have to re-think your whole eating habits, but its worth the effort. As a sideline, I have lost 28lbs which has to help joints etc. Good luck.

I won't go into detail here but I was cured of Fibromyalgia about 12 years ago by taking MSM. I was on prednesone for 3 years and was off of it in less than a month after taking MSM.

This is a very mis-understood ailment. Your theme from all the answers stem around diet and nutrtion. Plese educate yourself on a total nutrition regime that allows your body to absorb the supplements at the cellular level. The bioavailability in supplements will determine whether your body absorbs them enough to make a difference in your life. There are a lot of great products out there. Find a product line where you can listen and meet people with your same symptoms to see how they are doing after they are taking the same products.

I have some friends that use an alternative product called Reliv for their Fibromyalgia. Their individual results have ranged from dramatic improvement to symptom free. If you would like me to put you in touch with one of them, I would be happy to do so. I hate to see anyone suffer with unecessary pain.

I have found t hat fish oil pills taken daily help keep the pain at bay. If I don't take them for more than a few days I start to get the brain fog and the aches & pains. It doesnt make it go away 100% but it is much more maneagable. I have also heard celery seed is good for pain but I have not tried it.
