When the whineyass tree-huggers and ignorant liberals recognize that the need for energy far outweighs the minimal environmental risks of new high-tech refineries.

The day before the Invasion of Iraq oil was at $22 a barrel. Chevron and Exxon were afraid that if the UN removed the sanctions on Iraq Oil would have gone down to $18. Both Chevron and Exxon would have been in the red. That was why we attacked.
There is no shortage of oil and the number of refineries has been kept down by the Oil Companies so they can manipulate the price. Thier profits arwe up 500%
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!!

Honestly, yes. Its a large amount of money and will cause many poeople to adjust there bugdets in some ways to pay for gas. Do I think that will stop people from driving over all? No at all. People would much rather pay and drive than go through the difficulties of change (and so would I). I wish it were easier but its just somehting we'll have to deal with. Untill alternative methods of transportation become (more?) regularly available.
Oil reserves are depleting and any amout of refineries wont solve that.
I can't continue as it just angers and saddens me trying to think about the future of gas at this rate!

The gov't's answer is to subsidize ethonol plants. Unfortunately, most cars on the road can't run on it and those that do suffer a 20-30% reduction in fuel economy thus costing more money. The people affected most are the middle to lower class who can't afford to fill up their tank nor the money needed to buy a new "flex-fuel", hybrid or fuel efficient car. Also, by relying on corn as a fuel source, prices skyrocket for feed grain for beef as well as edible corn. Farmers switch to growing corn because of its premium price replacing other crops. And the reality is we can't grow enough corn to supplant the need for oil. Leave it to the gov't to adocate a solution that really makes no sense.

Gee where do you get your BS information? Gas supplies are at there lowest level in 19 months. Last month's production was up 4% and usage up 1.7%. refineries were at 88.1% production and crude inventories rose 2.6% to 345 million barrels.
It is not the government's job to build refineries. It is you job to conserve. Put your pants back on and stop trying to make yourself out to be a victim.

Dems have blocked the building of new refineries and have made the regulations so prohibitive that investors will not pony up the $$$. Last refinery built was 2 decades ago thanks to the left. The solution is out there. Now the left will blame Bush. They blame him for diaper rash these days!

Yes. I say bring it on. I'm not rich, but the only way that consumption will drop in this country is through increased economic stress on individuals. Very few will save energy based on factors such as moral and environmental concerns.

The Democratic party is a key reason gas prices are rising so fast. When they say the war in Iraq is lost, they support terrorism and encourage the world to be afraid. This makes the emotional price of gas go way up because everyone is afraid the oil supply may be disrupted due to their terroist allies.

no, and i will not. actually i have not purchased gas in years. add to that i support local agriculture and other commodities; thinking golbally, acting locally. on the international market $5 is not that bad. maybe it's time america gets over it's bad self. bicycles are healthy. scooters and small (tiny) cars are economical. yet every day i wait while a line of SUVs chug down the street (bought on credit that's over extended out of pure vanity, why does a soccer mom need a military 4 wheel drive?).

It sucks, really. I don't know if the government will do anything, by the time the agree on something we'll have no fuel left. As for me, this summer I plan to ride my bike everywhere I possibly can, even though everyone keeps telling me to get my license.
