I believe that teacher-led prayer should be allowed, as long as participation is OPTIONAL and there is an alternative activity for those who don't want to participate in the prayer to partake in. And the alternate activity should be something INTERESTING, not just "sit there and watch the rest of the 'normals' pray."

The teacher-led prayer should be performed in a non-intimidating, non-pressuring environment.

No no no. Teacher-led prayer should NOT be allowed in school. There are too many students out there with too many different beliefs to accomodate them all. Making even one student uncomfortable is reason enough not to have teacher-led prayer. Religion is a choice - not a requirement. Any kind of organized prayer in school would contradict that freedom we enjoy here in the US.

In public school? No!
As a public school teacher and a Christian I do not believe it is appropriate for teachers to lead prayer in school during school.
Students can pray when they want, teachers can pray before the kids walk in, but teacher led prayer?
Save something for home and church.

No, that's a public company. the 1st ammendment of the form says Congress shall make no regulation respecting a company of religion. instructor led prayer could be in violation of that, as she's a representative of the college, a state company. that's a conflict of pastime. i'm an atheist, yet nonetheless. i'm the only that reported the "instructor led" prayer on your previous question.

I dont think it should be because of all the whining people will do over seperation of church and state. However, if a student wishes to say a prayer, then he or she should be allowed because I firmly believe that prayer in school or just the worshipping of God (whatever your perception of God is) falls into the pursuit of happiness, which is also one of the basic freedoms we are constitutionally guaranteed. I also believe that if schools can dispense condoms, advocate homosexuality, show R rated films without parental consent,
well how much harm is there in letting a kid say a prayer.
It really bugs me that the s*** some people get away with, it just seems like there is to much emphasis on some really trivial and petty things out there. There is a hell of a lot more important things going on in our educational system that gets ignored than wether or not to allow prayer.
I am willing to bet that just by the tone of your question you dont support anything that has to do with the belief in a higher power, well maybe not you but probably most who answer this.
if a kid says a prayer in school....wow I might really be offended. people get real! prayer in school is the very least of our problems. (Now give me all the thumbs down ya want. I will say a prayer for you.lol)

Absolutely not. Teachers are there to impart knowledge, not to indoctrinate students in their own chosen superstition. It's illegal and unethical. What if the teacher in question was a Scientologist? Do you want them telling your children that they have to pay the Church of Scientology $100,000 to cleanse their bodies of thetans or they will be forever damned? I bet you don't.

Yes.

How else are students that don't do their home work, can't spell, can't add, can't do anything requiring thinking, going to pass if they can't pray in school ?
