DUH! US WHITE GIRLS WANT TO BE DARKER! IT HIDES FLAWS...CELLULITE, BLEMISHES AND SCARS...PLUS DONT U THINK A TAN IS JUST TOO DAMN SEXY???

How is it bizarre?
I wish I was darker... and I never ever thought being pale was beautiful. In ancient times paleness might have been conceived as beautiful but it's not that way now... being darker is actually considered more beautiful here now.

Plus.. being pale makes you look dead and unhealthy. Being tan makes you have a glow, it looks healthier.. it looks more attractive imo. I've never seen a pale girl I found attractive. They are usually light/medium to darker with a nice tone. Well, wait, if a girl is meant to be pale then she should stick with it instead of going orange.

Btw the whole idea of people being orange... if you're super white then you're meant to be white, but if you're like me and are of a different skin tone (Portuguese) then you look good with a tan, but if you are meant to be white then stick to it. Don't go for too much of a tan cause then you look orange! Those of us who don't look orange after getting tans were meant to get tans.

To disenchanted: it sounds to me like you're being bias, if you were tan I bet you wouldn't think it was gross. Some people are naturally tan, as hard as that may be to believe.

Personally I'm not really bias. I'm not really tan, I'm pretty pale, and I wish I was more tan. It's why I wear loads of bronzer.

By the way: I think it's true, some girls who want tans are just being shallow. Personally I just want a tan because I get teased because my family is all darker then me! : X

I guess its just a case of wanting what you haven't got, I have pale skin and pay for a spray tan, most of my friends who are pale skinned too compliment each other when they have caught the sun and looked tanned. I find it bizarre that people with darker skin wish it to be lighter, so I guess its just a case of wanting to be more like others! LOL

It looks healthy to have a little more color in the sunnier, warmer months, but a lot of people think that "more" is better, which is untrue. Tanned skin conceals a lot of imperfections like spider veins, cellulite, etc. but the health risks of "tanning" are not worth it! Also, 80% of aging (wrinkles, lines, dark spots) that occur by the age of 60 are due to sun damage! Look good now with a self-tanner (technology has come a long way- you don't have to be orange; try Clarins or Clinique) and look good later by using an SPF 25 or higher now!

These tan or orange girls think they are such beauty queens now (they're not, but they THINK they are)..but in the future they'll surely have skin cancer and will have aged much faster than the rest. I think people have the misconception that getting sun BURNED causes cancer..but no, TANNING does too.
I'm glad to be pale, although I do get made fun of it a lot for it here. Maybe I should move somewhere where I'd be more accepted?
Most girls here are very materialistic and shallow, yes. And stupid. Just read some of these posts before mine!
If a person is naturally darker, fine. I just hate when people go out of their way to do it and use tanning beds and/or don't use sunscreen or a proper amount of SPF sunscreen. Oh well, in the end they'll definitely regret it.

EDIT**
Here are some facts I got some skincancer.org that I find interesting..

-More than 90 percent of all skin cancers are caused by sun exposure.

-A person's risk for skin cancer doubles if he or she has had five or more sunburns.

-One blistering sunburn in childhood more than doubles a person's chances of developing melanoma later in life.

-Exposure to tanning beds before age 35 increases melanoma risk by 75 percent.

-People who use tanning beds are 2.5 times more likely to develop squamous cell carcinoma and 1.5 times more likely to develop basal cell carcinoma.

-Occasional use of tanning beds almost triples the chances of developing melanoma.

-Up to 90 percent of the visible skin changes commonly attributed to aging are caused by the sun. These changes can be seen as early as in one's 20's.

-Ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is a proven human carcinogen.

in most places like asia people prefer pale skin. but here in good ol' fat america, we like to show off our materialism and wealth by being tan.
like 'hey everyone! i can afford to go to the bahamas!'
yeah, have fun with that skin cancer.

im not saying its gross to be tan, i actually am not very pale myself. but i think people shouldnt try to be darker than they are naturally.

I have never understood people's desire to be the same color as an Oompa Loompa but whatever floats your boat, I guess
