something that can be added or subtracted. Example: 2xy + 16w....2xy is a term and 16w is a term. What may be confusing is the difference between a factor and a term. A factor would be something multiplied or divided: 2,x,and y would be factors and the term would be 2xy.

Any 'part' of an expression that can be evaluated all by itself. For example, in
ax² + bx +c we might speak of the 'x²' term meaning ax². Or in
y = mx +b we might refer to the 'left-hand' or 'right-hand' term, meaning y or mx+b.
