it's been a while since I looked at "who votes" stats... but gong off my memory, the more people make and the older they are... they more likely they are to vote...

so, why do Republicans say that Dems court the vote of the welfare participants and the college students? these people don't vote traditionally anywhere near as much as everyone else, last time I looked?

if these are the only people voting dem, which some seem to imply, shouldn't the Republicans be crushing them? but they are barely winning, when they do win, like Bush in both elections, very small margin of victory?

or are there just that many democrats that they make up for the small participation in volume? but wouldn't that mean that there are many more dems than repubs on average, since the elections are close and they vote at a lesser rate?

but personally, I suspect that the dems have many more voters in many other areas, that Republicans tend to ignore... like the middle class...

thoughts? comments? statistics?

well----the dems can count on some good people that don't know better, criminals, subversives, illegals, drug addicts.bums, jail birds, barflies, brothel owners, prostitutes, pimps, people skating on thin ice, trash, scum.Hollywood, the media, and the political machine as well as many as can gain by the millions of dollars that will be thrown out there to try to win the presidential office,-----------so you see they will be getting a lot of guaranteed votes and it will not matter who the candidate is or what they have done or what they plan-----so they are going to be really really tough to beat------but we must try.

most dems come from densely populated areas, major metropolitan areas, i.e. N.Y. city, L.A., Chicago etc. Dems court welfare recipients because they also mainly live in these same areas. they court college students as do republicans in hopes of gaining future votes.
the republican voters are mostly conservative and prefer not to live in the big city but in the suburban and rural areas. the demographics are clear on the maps. high population areas = democrats, everywhere else = republican.
on most issues I have almost always seen that we are instead of being split evenly down the center or just off center are actually split into thirds, 33 1/3 solid dem, 33 1/3 swing and 33 1/3 solid republican. its that middle third that everyone goes for and they can be anywhere.

Here is a trusted Dem/lib news source CNN with the demographics from the 2004 presidential election. Dems are the party of the low income earners and those with lower educations (only exception is that Dems poll higher with pointy headed PHD types..college professors).

The Democratic Party represents the people who have to get up and go to work every day. Always has, always will.

Republicans court haters, White people who think they're discriminated against because of their race(talk about losers!) and people dumb enough to believe Repubs lower taxes( I'm paying more now than when Clinton was in, not counting gas prices)

Although groups that traditionally vote Democratic are greater in number, they vote less often than those groups that traditionally vote Republican, equalizing the returns.

The process you describe is part and parcel to "revving up" the base. Above all else it is simple "classism" The non-voting segment that you mentioned has to be thrown out there to set the battle lines. If these HAVE NOTS aren't countered, it is reasoned, they will elect people to raise taxes and other horror stories. You're right. They DON'T vote. But they make CONVENIENT boogymen.
