When I am searching for a potential employee, it is their overall potential I am looking at. That includes their dress, style, and carriage. For the ladies, if your hair is neat and styled that certainly is an asset over someone who has long hair and not styled at all. Gentleman, if you have clean, neat and trimmed hair, again it is preferred over someone who has just let themselves go.

Some (close minded) people take longer hair as a sign of sloppiness or laziness. It depends on if you want to change yourself and your image for a job. If it doesn't bother you, chances are you would be better considered if you are clean cut looking. This is unfair and rediculous, but for certain jobs they like to have a "look" or guidelines for image. I personally do not discriminate when hiring an employee as we have many twenty-somethings working at our buisness, long and short haired, lol, but other companies are different. Really just think about the kind of job you are looking for before you decide to cut your hair for the sake of a job.

If you are looking for a job in general industries, yes, cut your hair. It is considered good etiquette to have your hair cut. Some even go so far as to say no facial hair. I think if you have facial hair, it is OK, but make sure it is trimmed and looks neat.
If you are looking for a job, like with a band or in theater, it is OK to have long hair, just make sure it is clean and neatly combed, or pulled back.
Good luck on your job hunt.
