I went to the hospital today to try to get the doctor to give me a blood test because my urine test were negative and I have not had a period since March 9th. The doctor told me that urine test are as accurate as blood test. I argued with him that it takes alot longer for a urine test to show up then blood. He told me I am not pregnant because the urine test was negative and sent me home. A week ago today I started spotting a few pink drops on pantyliners for a few days, the pink stopped and two days later I started spotting brown on pantyliners. Now I am not spotting at all. I started feeling sick and tired about two weeks ago and I would really like to know what is wrong with me.

I took a urine test at home and the hospital and they were both negative. I was in a severe car accident on March 24th that I think could have delayed my April Period, so therefore I can still be pregnant right?

Here is the difference. The urine test is very accurate and tells if you are pregnant or not. The blood test will tell you HOW pregnant you are. The urine test is what you needed. Are you under a lot of stress? This will greatly affect your cycle.

A blood test and a urine test both look for the presence of hCG. A blood test can detect it within a week of conception, and also can date the pregnancy by measuring the levels of hCG present, which increase as the pregnancy progresses. A urine test simply tells whether or not there's hCG present within the urine, which can take as little as 14 days after conception, although I've had false negatives into my sixth week of pregnancy, and my sister into her eighth! It IS fallible, and, if you're having symptoms of pregnancy, including being that late, you SHOULD demand a blood test, even if it means going to another doctor! I've been in this same position, actually, but I was getting confirmation of an early miscarriage; I was told by the doctor that I wasn't pregnant, I hadn't BEEN pregnant, and, in effect, the symptoms I was experiencing were all in my head (he just used bigger words to say it . . . )

Some of the symptoms you're describing, including the spotting, COULD be signs of an ectopic pregnancy, which, if untreated, can be life-threatening. You need to call your doctor back, or call another doctor (who'll actually listen to you, instead of dismissing your fears . . . ), and seek treatment. One of my cousins had an ectopic pregnancy, and, had she waited another day, she would have died. As it was, 3/4 of her fallopian tube was destroyed. It's not something to play with! (She's fine now, and is actually expecting her second daughter this September.)

Good luck . . .

They are different. A routine blood or urine test is looking for signs of illness or wellness. A drug blood or urine test is specifically ordered as a toxicology screen. They have to specify which drugs they are testing for , also. Marijuana would only show up on a routine test if it was ordered to be tested.

you would think your dr would want to know too. urine tests are very accurate if it is for pregnancy but not anything when it comes to blood cell count (white or red) or if there is an infection of any type. it could be stress or a number of things, but your dr should be more adament about trying to help you figure it out. if you doubt him, go ahead and take a home pregnancy test, they are really very accurate...if it is something else you are worried about FIND A NEW DR!

Urine tests are super accurate if you don't test too early. If you haven't had a period for that long and it was still negative, probably not preggo.
