rap isnt pointless. they just say things from the perspective that they lived. some may be discriminating, but they dont live the life you have, whether it be good or bad. so that's how it is for them. if girls grow up and look up to girls in music videos, then they have more problems than the music they listen to if they're using backround dancers as idols. they DO still have good songs. everyone that hits a certain age says old school is better. try listening to
slow your roll from young bucks new cd or
flipsyde - happy birthday
those are new songs and have something to say in them (happy birthday is the guy who made it talking about regretting abortion that happened to him, so some may like that more)

Common, Lupe Fiasco, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Ryhmefest, the Roots, Nas, Pharoah Monch are some artists that are new school you can listen too. Remember corporations today choose which artists & what type of rap is seen & heard. They don't believe that people want to hear intelligent, thought-provoking (or fun without being degrading) hip hop music, so you should support these artist to prove them wrong!!!!!!

pretty much.
it's a shame to see rap music be taking to the gutter like this. Rap has always talked about sex, money, jewelry, cars etc but that wasn't the meat of most songs.
there still some good rappers out there besides the hip-pop that gets most of the airplay but you have to look a bit harder to find them.
as for songs like rain on these #0es the thing is those are songs for a strip club, sure a stripper would be happy if fools just start throwing lots of money on stage because that's how they get paid but I don't see way they thought it was a good song to release out side of that setting.

I like it if it's catchy and a good song to dance to and make me in the mood for a party. Some rap does have lyrics I can relate to, but you're right a lot of it is stupid or very down on women. Like, I like that song by Fat Joe, but the lyrics are 'I make it rain, I make it rain, I make it rain on them hoes' over and over. not very intelligent. lol!

No music is pointless. you just gotta have tha love of the beats and the music. and the new Rap isnt rap...its called Hip Hop. Rap is a lot different than hip hop. hip hop is what comes on the radio all the time. they dont play much RAP.

well all rappers dont talk about sex, money, cars, and jewelry.....you have to remember those women in the videos put themselves out there, nobody forces them to do anything...there are 2 sides to every story....dont try to take just one song/artist and try to make it the posterboy for the whole genre......if you dont like it, dont listen to it, and there wont be any problems...i think its kind of a biased question..

Your spot on right. It has went down hill almost 20 years ago when Tone Loc and Young MC were not rapping "the true black experience". Now we know what that means. :(

I totally do, even some of the female rappers talk about women as though we are nothing. I liked the old stuff like Queen Latifa, Will Smith, etc.. but I can't stand it now and I am not even that old.
