My new dell desktop features a wide flat screen monitor that distorts on the horizontal axis, notably fonts in Outlook. I searched for a way to adjust this in Appearance Settings, but haven't found one.

Chances are that you are not at the native resolution of the monitor. If you go to Support.Dell.com and look up your monitor it will tell you under the technical specifications what your monitors native resolution is.

You need to set your desktop resolution to the native resolution of the LCD panel.

Display properties > Settings tab.

Adjust the slider in Screen Resolution until it matches your monitors native resolution.

There should be a Menu on the Monitor itself to tweak and adjust, their may also be an Auto Adjust option on the monitors menu.
