Metallica - 'Black' album
Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind
Cult - Sonic Temple
Judas Priest - Stained Class
Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous
Other honourable mentions must go to Led Zep 2 and 4, AC/DC 'Back in Black', Rush 'Moving Pictures', Motorhead 'Ace of Spades',Van Halen 2 (yes 2 not 1, VH2 was far and away their best ever), Guns N Roses 'Appetite for Destruction'..
Anyone care to try and top that 5 rock/metal list? In my view it is unbeatable..

wow - great stuff, my list seems to have generated a good response! I am, as some of you have noticed, biased to older school rock and metal - that's my age revealing itself! I do listen to some newer stuff but for me it's just not up there with the best from the 70s and 80s and every early 90s. But I forgot of course to mention Nirvana - 'Nevermind' and also Sabbath - either 'Paranoid' or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' and Pearl Jam - 'Ten' maximum respect to those albumd as well, so thanks to some of you for reminding me! Although, great as those albums are, they don't quite make my all time top 5! Nice to know that there are plenty of Rockers both old and new still out there, and from both sides of the pond as well (I'm from London)

This is easy, it seems that you got stuck with the old ones....as they said, old school. They are fine, but now days are great albums as well.
Kamelot - The Black Hole....also....The Fouth Legacy
Dark Moor - Tarot
Opeth - Black Water Park...also.....all of them...
Nevermore - Dreaming Neon Black
Therion - Deggial......also The Secret of the Runes
Epica - The Phantom Agony
Iron Maiden - Brave New World and 7th Son of a 7th Son
Amorphis - Am Universum
Death - The Sound Of Perseverance
Testament - The Gathering
And the list keeps going..................................
As you can see, beating your list is way too easy, now days there are many great bands out there, but is good that you remember the past.

Master of Puppets -- Metallica (much better than Black Album)
Vulgar Display of Power -- Pantera (you don't get much more metal than this one)
Paranoid -- Black Sabbath (I hope I don't have to expalin this one!)
Appetite for Destruction -- Guns N Roses (this album gave the finger to the pop metal hair bands)
Reign in Blood -- Slayer (It's Slayer... that's all that needs said)
honorable mention: Back in Black -- AC\DC, Operation: Mindcrime -- Queensryche, Powerslave -- Iron Maiden, Pump -- Aerosmith, Nevermind -- Nirvana and Killer -- Alice Cooper

How about - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club 'Take Them On, On Your Own'
Jimi Hendrix Experience 'Electric Ladyland'
MC5- 'Kick Out The Jams'
Free- 'Heartbreaker'
Queens of the Stone Age- 'Songs for the Deaf'
.... in no particular order.... or are they?...
But you know, all time lists like this are a bit weak, because taste is such a wild card... One man's nine inch nail is another man's hoople.
