Explain the advantage of having a string of holiday lights arranged in parallel, considering individual lights burn out easily.

When one burns out you don't have to go down the entire string to find the bad one. And, as we all know, the bad one is always the last one you check ☺

If they were in series, if one burnt out, the string would go dark. In parallel, the rest stay lit, because each has it's own current path.
