Without knowing what hobbies you may already have or your interests, here are a few crafts I enjoy.
Knitting -- my favorite hobby. With so many projects that can be made, there is something for everyone from scarves to socks (love to make slipper socks) to sweaters to aghans.
Rubber stamping -- I mainly make cards for all occasions (I'm a Stampin' Up! demonstrator), so I can customize card to match the recipient. You can stamp on most anything that stays still -- fabric, walls, tiles, glass, candles,... Stamping comes in very handy for making scrapbooks -- make your own decorative paper and embellishments.
Beading -- I love stringing beads and doing some simple stitch patterns to make necklaces, earrings and bracelets.
Polymer clay -- make beads, canes, stamp on it...
Cake decorating -- fun and you can eat your work!
Amateur radio -- this one requires passing a test to get a license from the FCC, but the study book has every question and answer that can be on the test. Amateurs are a friendly group and enjoy helping new people enter the hobby. I've talked to over 200 countries/places around the world and traded cards with many of them. Lots of fun. And this is a rewarding hobby because we help in times of emergency by providing radio communication when there is no electricity, no phone service, flooding, ice storms, etc.
I've never had a chance to be bored. I hope some of these ideas appeal to you.

Advanced Lifesaving and Water Safety. This is the best and most important class anyone could ever take while here on Earth.
Just learning to swim the crawl stroke and being able to do this 500 meters and day five days a week will put you light years ahead of any human currently alive today. Learning to save a drowning person is not something any common swimmer can do or will ever do.
The second greatest thing you can learn, as a hobby, is to accurately shoot a rifle, pistol, and shotgun. Many college kids are getting interested in the shooting sports and they soon learn it's not like a video game, it's harder than it looks.
Both of these interests are challenging and difficult but the pay off is your utter confidence in your ability to save a life or possibly take one in your own self-defense.
No more hiding under the desk or in your house as you take on the world.

Yes! I have dicovered a fantastic old hobby that is making a bang today. It is extreamly easy and is so easy to take anywhere. Loom knitting...you can buy them at Micheals or some wool shops. They are like spool knitting with a twist. I sstarted with making tokes and dog sweaters in the round. I have graduated to the long looms...to make sweaters , dishcloths, afgans, mitts, scarfs, etc. only your imagination can continue. What I like about it is that if you have to drop it in a hurry...you NEVER loose a stitch and you can always remember with ease where you left off. I take it everywhere I go it is small and compact and fits in my usual knit bag. I'm sure you will be happy and greative with it. Lots of patterns and ideas are found on the internet as I've been trying to buy a pattern book from the store and they sell fast. I have even come up with a way of adding pony beads by threading them first and workig them in around the pegs as I go. You will be a star before you know it...Try it and enjoy your summer.

Knitting is a lot of fun and not for old ladies anymore! They're are so many cool things you can make, and even start making gifts for christmas time! (this year I am starting in september). Right now I am making a shrug (like a sweater with only sleaves that goes across your back) and a purse to felt (when you wash wool). oh and a tank top. haha. Look it up in the phone book, find a local yarn shop that maybe has a sit and knit, usually there are people there that will help you for free. Or you can easily find lessons. If you are quick to pick up that kind of thing knittinghelp.com has a lot of help and videos! Crochet is out there too, but I don't know where you can find help and patterns and what not.
oh and scrapbooking. I am just getting into it, and there is a lot out there!

Some of my favorites are: knitting, crocheting, cake decorating, or acrylic painting. There are a lot of projects that could come out of doing any of these.
You can take any of these classes at your local Michael's Crafts store.
Have a great summer!

Beading is a great hobby. The project can be large or small. It is portable, for the beach or while travelling. The beading magazines have easy to hard projects

try a guitar or maybe piano and see how far you can get in 2 months or whatever
i dont know anybody that doesnt want to learn how to play guitar
but i do know alot of people who dont know when they want to start learning
so try it out and see where it takes you
just dont resort to something like videogames, because youll basically waste your entire summer

How about volunteering somewhere.
Hospitals could use you.
Work at the YMCA or YWCA.
Spend it with relatives, like grandpa & grandma.
Plant flowers for your mom & dad.
Read about subjects that you will be taking next semester.
Summer school is fun, plus you get smarter.
