Well you should use plastic applicators to start. They go in a lot easier then cardboard. And yes all you should see is the string and when they are in right they don't hurt.
You should start seeing a gynecologist as well. If you go ask the doc about it as well.
Good luck!!

Here is your solution. Sit on the toilet as you insert the tampon, but slightly slant it in an upward position. That should solve your dilemma. You should have just the string out when inserted properly. Be careful to watch for any signs of toxic shock syndrome and remove the tampon immediately if you should experience them.

The reason you can't get them in is because of your hymen. This is very normal for girls your age. It's a kind of covering inside the vagina that has a little opening big enough to let blood out, but not big enough to let the tampon in. The best person to help you with this is your doctor. Don't be embarassed to ask about this. It's very common.

When sitting, aim the tampon towards your mid to lower back area and insert slowly. Try using some lube on the tip of the applicator (and try using plastic tampon inserts they work so much better!).
Also buy the slenderest tampons you can to help with your first time.

it will not go in if you aren't putting it in the right way...which is pushing it back not up into your vagina or if there isn't enough "wetness" for it to properly slide in. what kind of tampons are they? try tampax pearl or gentle glide.

Sometimes it's easier if you put one leg up on the toilet or something. I have no magazines in my bathroom just tampon instructions.

are you a virgin? I am thinking your hymen is blocking access. yes it does hurt a bit but lots of girls have broken their hymen with tampons and not ever known it.

it's probably one of two things.
1. you're trying to put in the wrong hole. (the one you pee out of)
2. your hymen is low and until it is popped, you wont have any luck. sorry.
hope i helped!
