that specific section is called a spine and that does apply to a booklet most books have a spine unless the pages are binded with a stapler, therfore its not a proper spine just a binder

book binding requires an ice pick a long heavy needle and strong thread plus cardboard for the covers, and leather, fabric or fancy paper to cover that. you can look up the process on line in a web search.
