Clinique is a great line to start out with. Try MAC as well. If your only concerned about color than no matter what anyone says its OK to buy it at the drug store ( color is color). For Instance, There are only a couple eye liner pencil manufactures in the WORLD. Every cosmetic line has to use one of the three out there and when the product is finished they put their label on it. Take the inexpensive line JANE (sold at drug stores) this line was started by the ESTEE LAUDER company and is still owned by them. One thing I would never skimp on though is foundation or powder. Consultants are trained to match you up with the correct color which is sooooooo important. Have fun and try different lines to see what you prefer.
Good Luck!!!!!!!

They're are so many things you can use and it's such a broad question!
I have learned the makeup products that I need to "splurge" on are your concealers, foundations, powders. I suggest perscriptives there powders are really nice, if you go to the counter they will help you find your shades and let you try them on. Also Bare minderals is really nice.
The products I found I can skimp on and even get cheaper brands is eye makeup, at least shadows. Eyeliner and Mascara you will probably find a favorite and just stick with it. But the shadows I have found you can just pick up lots of brands and types, it's easily manipulated, you can easily add a little water to a liner brush and use your shadow as a liner.
Once you get comfortable with using makeup I would suggest getting yourself and nice set of makeup brushes, it really helps!
Try diffrent stores, and makeup counters, they will often give you a "free makeover" (they usually want you to buy somthing, I usally get a lip gloss or somthing fun and small), and then go home and practice what they did, you can try it with cheaper brands or things you already have at home. Good luck!

Hun please never use the term "emo glasses" ever again. Or else someone's going to beat you up. But, I would suggest you trace a line in pencil first, then follow your line you already made with MAC or whatever liquid you want. That way you wont accidentally make one end uneven, and when the eyeliner is dry, you have to wash your face to get it off, and thats annoying. Also, make sure you have a steady hand.

well I'm african american so I use fashion fair and products for brown shades of skin... but since I'm kinda light-complected, after the eye-shadow and blush is covered, anything is game. you wanna be careful with cheap make-up 'cause it can break you out. most of us in our family pay a handsome penny for our make-up. But like eye-liner and lip-pencils and junk you can get at any store and it's cool. Lip gloss too. You gotta learn eventually what you're willing to expend a lot of money on, and what you can get at Rite-Aid and be happy with.
