So here is the story:

I went trail riding for the first time last weekend, we all had ORV stickers on our 4-wheelers and dirtbikes. We were going down a state trail and it forked and we just went one way. We stopped for a rest a little while longer down the trail. Next time we know a DNR ( Department of Natural Resources ) truck pulls up and tells us that we are not permitted to be there. Where the trail forked there was no signs or anything marking which way was correct, we tried to explain this to the DNR officer but he wouldn't believe us and he just kept telling us we were wrong. He ended up writting us citations for operating ORV where prohibbited in violation of R299.922(p) under administrative rule. The citation ended up being $120. On the back of the citation you can write the courthouse a letter admitting responsibility with explanation and it is possible that they will revoke the citation. Do you have any tips or advice on what I should say in the letter? I live in MI.

well you should get a court date dont pay the ticket. until you speak to the judge or magistrate in person. If the officer fails to show up to court they have no case. Ask for dismissal. If he is there thats when u plead your case. But you were operating a vehicle when you rode away from your "rest". so you are guilty but usaully a judge will hear a person out especially when your ignorance is the truth.

go back to the place that you're talking about and take some photos of the location,,,, I picture is better than a thousand words,

Most prob this guy moved the signs himself so that he could write a few ticket, to make him look good, it has been done before and it will be done again.

next time alway carry a camera pictures tell the tail as it is, words can be bent to suite the situation

So ignorance of the law doesn't mean that you're not responsible for your crime. Pay the citation and get over it. You're guilty as charged. Explaining it to the judge won't do anything you weren't supposed to be there and you got caught. Quit being a pussy and pay it.

You are so white trash. No you can't get out of this citation, suck it up and take your annoying dirt bikes to a closed circuit away from everybody else.
