I agree that alot of the new age rap sucks, but i have been listening to it for over 13 years. Run DMC did " Walk this Way" with Aerosmith. Also Flava Flav did somthing as well. Also Rage Against The Machine was a Rock/ Rap group. To answer you question, yes i think it is very possible for appreciate rap or
appreciate rock. It's just most of the stuff thats out is all crap.

I am a rocker at heart ( classic not metal stuff) and also love many other kinds of music and have never cared for rap.
( or hip-hop). I especially don't like the kind with vulgar or violent lyrics, and I don't care for the sound of it. I prefer my music with a melody and to me it's not music and it has no melodic sound to it. There are some very few rap songs where the artist actually sings as well --like singing the chorus of the song---and the lyrics are understandable and not offensive----those are passable as music but I wouldn't buy any of them . It's just not my 'thing".

I've been a rocker since the days of Buddy Holly. I like some hip-hop and some rap. But a lot of rap just seems to be repetitive rhyme with no real message, just an attempt to make money and get laid. And gangsta rap just sucks preaching violence and sex. Not that I'm a prude, but there's a limit. Overuse of the N word just proves the ignorance of the rapper in my mind.

I'm a rocker except for extreme heavy metal and love all types of music but I just do not like rap and especially the obnoxious and lewd lyrics.

I have a hard time getting into hard rock and I hate heavy metal. But I enjoy 60's-90's rock. And some of the newer stuff.
Rap is my genre

I was raised with rock-n-roll... and I'll listen to almost ANYthing except the weepy drunk in the beer country stuff. I like older country, some of this new stuff is just boring.

I prefer rock. I can appreciate "some" rap. Mostly it's just noise to me. It hurts my ears to be in traffic next to someone with heavy bass. I don't know how they can stand it! :)
