my neighbor down the street was broken into and she is an old lady. do robbers only target places where old people are or where they think that hardly no one is in there? I will be sleeping near my gun from now on. If it ain't my husband coming into my room, it gonna be a bullet in the robber.

I would not use a gun, I don't own one. I do have an eighty-pound pistol crossbow and a katana near the bed, though. I know my own home very well and can manuever in the dark without making noise. I would strike from the darkness, preferably from cover, and probably from the rear - if it wasn't a bolt thru the skull it would be a blade thru the torso. Since my attack is silent, my neighbors would sleep on, none the wiser. I would clean up the mess, bury the body in the backyard behind the cover of my privacy fence, and go about my business like nothing had happened. What the police never find out about won't hurt me in the slightest. I have no problem killing someone from surprise, as they have forfeited their right to honorable combat by dishonorably entering my home to pilfer and plunder. If it were up to me I would reinstate the ancient punishment for thievery - cutting off the right hand. Trust me - the robbery rate would drop dramatically.

Its true the elderly are by far the easiest to rob, most of them don't ever put up a fight. When I'm trolling a neighbourhood I always keep my eyes open for the Gray hairs, and only knock over there houses. I once robbed an old lady that was so happy just to have someone to talk to she made me and my buddy tea and served us cookies (pretty f*cked up eh). As far as sleeping next to your gun that's not a good Idea. I once accidentally discharged my gun in my sleep and have a nice scar on my leg to prove it. Also what if your "husband" gets back from a trip in the middle of the night maybe is mouth is full of food or something so he cant let you know hes coming and bang bang bang one dead husband. That would be horrible no I think the best thing to do is get a security system installed post the signs ( we don't like the signs ) and sleep at ease.

A person who enters your home to steal stuff is a burglar. Robbers use the threat of violence and say "stick 'em up". When a person enters the dwelling of another and uses violence or the threat of violence while committing a felony is guilty of home invasion. In my state, that's a class x felony, and a person would be able to use lethal force as a defense.

Aside from that, if your life isn't threatened, you may be charged with manslaughter in a lot of states. In other words... don't shoot a burglar in the back. You'll never be able to claim self-defense.

I think it's a little extreme -- almost sadistic -- to somebody's life for attempting to take your stuff. It's just stuff. The burglar could be anybody, and you don't know the circumstance for them being there. They could, for all you know, be committing the burglary because if they don't, their family would be killed. That's why there are laws that reserve the act of taking somebody's life for people who are doing so in defense of their own.

It's a foolish criminal that enters a home without some assurance that it is empty. You're very unlikely to have an opportunity to shoot an intruder. It's about 20 times more likely that gun of yours will be used to kill someone from your household.

I do not (now) have a gun, but I have in the past. Right now I live in a very very safe gated community. But I do not have a problem with owning or using a gun. And you BET I'd shoot someone who broke in my house.

Robbers do target those they perceive are weak and helpless. Many stupid liberals believe that you shouldn't even have the means to defend yourself.

Just look at the ridiculous response above.

LOL no, your stupid if you rob old people (but robbers are stupid anyways), they down own HDTVs or pcs, or anything but knitted blankets really.
Its illegal in america to defend yourself, murdering an intruder is excessive punishment, they tried to lock me up cause someone died cause he tried to steal my car, i drove off and he pulled the wheel and cause of that I hit a wall and he died. Im america the criminals are in control, look at the politicans. Cost me 50 grand to get off from manslaughter charges cause someone wanted to beat me, try to steal my car, get on top of my car, and pull the wheel into a wall.

they locked up an old man for excessive punishment back in like 94, cause he set a trap that blew off the legs of the person snooping in their house at night

They target old people because they know they aren't strong they probably won't break into your house if you keep the windows closed keep an accurate alarm and leave a light or two on!
Good luck !
