If the new homeowners are bakers or cookers, an alternative to wine might be Genuine Vanilla Extract (most people wind up using imitation because it's cheaper) if they bake, or a bottle of a nicer brand of Extra Virgin Olive Oil if they love to cook. I also once brought someone a big ole bottle of gourmet hot sauce because I knew they LOVE hot sauce.

cash card for food shopping
lawn maintenece for 1 year.
fresh flowers daily
items needed in the home.
in addition to this:
there's the small old world gift
a few coins, a pinch of salt and a tiny piece of bread.
coins so they will never know poverty.
salt , so their lives have flavor.
bread, so they'll never know hunger.
bundle them together, present them to the homeowner who usually tucks these into the back of one of the kitchen cuboards.
