They are illegally trespassing and yes, you are within your rights to call the sheriff or police to have them forcibly removed from the property.
If you feel it would be safe to approach them, maybe you could contact the local church in that neighborhood and ask someone to accompany you to talk to them and see why they are squatting on your property. Someone desperate enough to be in a property they have no legal right to occupy needs some help. Are they mentally stable?
Can you make this a win-win situation and help them out while still getting control of your property back?
Maybe they would be interested in renting the property from you even...

Depends on what the status of the "foreclosure" is in.
If it is "in foreclosure" the legal owner may have given them rights of occupancy.
If the foreclosure process has been completed and you are the current legal owner then owners/renters/squatters have no possession rights and you can have them removed by law enforcement as tress passers.

If they are not the owners, nor renters and have no permission to be there (from the owners), call the cops and have them removed for trespassing.

Call the police station (not 911 but the local number) and ask what ordinances are in place against squatters, and then follow their instructions. In this state, you must send eviction notices and proceed as though they are tenants.

Post "No Trespassing" signs.

Call the police if you see them there without permission. That would be breaking and entering and is sort of frowned upon in the eyes of the law.

I'm curious how they got in there in the first place then?

How they are in the house would need to be known before I could suggest how to get them out.
