I'm going to the doctor in a few days, and i'll get a blood test taken then but I'm worried and scared and I want to know now.

The only symptom of diabetes I have is being thirsty, but really I live in CO (very dry), and I always have a dry throat but when I go to drink water, I don't really need it. The thing is I have been living here for 10 years, and just in the last year I have developed a dry throat. And I'm not on any medication or anything.

Otherwise, i don't pee excessivley, don't have a huge appetite, didn't lose weight for no reason, don't have blurred vision, or any of that.

For those of you who have diabetes: how many symptoms did you have before you found out you infact had the disease?

Calm down.... alot of times diabeties can be controlled with just watching your diet. The scale for diabeties has changed to make more people aware of the disease and to give them a chance to control it before it really becomes a problem. Hopefully that is what will happen with you. And what happened to me. I am a borderline diabetic. Mine is contrilled by watching my carb intake. Just stay calm and wait and see what your blood test shows. Dont get yourself worked up till you know whats going on. I was like you, drank alot of water had a dry throat. No other signs. Mine is completely under contol now. Good Luck!

I have heard people say in a diabetic class that the symptom that they really noticed was being extremely tired. I felt the same way. Neither they nor I felt like they had the other symptoms. I just thought my throat was especially dry because I smoked. I drank a lot of pop because my throat was dry so a lot seemed only natural.

I believe that I had diabetes for many years and didn't know it because I didn't see a doctor for a 10-year period.

Well I don't personly have diabetes but my good friend John does. Before he was diagnost with type 2 he was fatigue, lost weight for no reason, black outs, light headed and more. He found out when he was rushed to the emergency room for passing out at school and they took a blood test. I don't think you have diabeties but if you are on medicane it can cause fatigue. Hope that helps and good luck with the blood test and I hope you don'y have diabeties.
PS: you may have type 1 if if was in your family.

if you have a weight problem, or there is a history of diabetes in your family, then you may well be developing the disease.
at any rate, the only way to know for sure is to have a fasting blood test done, so don't eat anything the day of your appointment.
