I am 38 weeks pregnant and began having strong, regular contractions 12 hours ago. They continue to come at 3-5 minute intervals and are strong enough to make me stop what I am doing and some take my breath away. How long can one possibly continue like this before true labor or some type of cervical changes begin to occur?

Already went in to the hospital to get checked, got put on the monitors and contractions were monitored but was sent home due to no dilation in a 2 hour time frame.

Please keep in close contact with your doctor on this. I have seen it happen before with early labor stretching on for days. Hopefully, this won't be you!
Stay active by walking around, doing light housework, and distract yourself with easy tasks. Take rests also, closing your eyes and letting your body go limp.
When cervical changes happen, you will usually feel different. You might have nausea, you may flush red on your cheeks, you may spot a little. If any of these things happen, you may be dilating so check with you doctor to see when to come in.
Many times, with a long, early labor your body is doing all of that "prep" work gradually. So when the active, dilating part happens, it can go very quickly. You may want to talk directly to your doctor ASAP to tell him/her your concerns and what the plan is on when to go to the hospital.

Hun, if they're regular and hurt that bad it sounds like you're in labor. They say to go to hospital when contractions are 5 minutes apart or closer.
Good luck and i hope this is it for u!

With my first, I had contractions liek that for 3 full days but then she had her head set in my hip instead of straight down. It IS probably time to call your doctor. With my secodn they didn;t get any stronger or closer than what you are describing.

They're regular--go to the hospital was what I was told. I wouldn't wait for any changes or you'll be delivering at home.
