Convert everything to the same unit, then compare.
53 in = 53 in
4 5/7 ft = 4*12 + (5/7)*(12 in /1 ft) = 48 + 60/7 = 48 + 8 4/7= 56 4/7 in
1/8 ft ... well a foot is less than a yard, so we know this has to be less than 1/8 of yard, so let's skip this
1/8 yd * (36 in /1 yd) = 36/8 in = 4 1/2 in
So 4 5/7 ft is the longest measurement.

Easiest to put all in the same units, say inches.
4 5/7ft is 4x12 + 5/7 of a foot. Now 5/7 of a foot is at least 6 inches so this is at least 54 inches.
1/8 of a foot is less than a foot so less than 12 inches
1/8 yd is less than a yard so less than 36 inches
So without knowing exactly the measurement of each we still know that 54 inches is the greatest and so 4 5/7ft is the answer.

4 5/7 is the greatest length. It is 48 inches plus more than 6 inches more (5/7 of a foot is > 6 inches). The sum of these would be more than 53 inches. 1/8 of a foot is 1 1/2 inches and 1/8 of a yard is 4 1/2 inches.

Simply convert them all into the same units. There are 12 inches in a foot, and 3 feet (36 inches) in a yard.
So, first I'll do 4 5/7 feet. We can convert that into an improper fraction:
4 5/7 = (7x4)/7 + 5/7 = 33/7 feet
And then we can multiply by 12, the number of inches in a foot, to get the number of inches in 4 5/7 feet.
33/7 x 12 = 396/7 = 56.57 inches
You can do the same with 1/8 feet, I'll let you do that one.
The process is the same for 1/8 yd, but instead of multiplying by 12, multiply by the number of inches in a yard, 36.
Then pick out the biggest number of inches.
