Its hard for me to understand how someone can hate someone else based on the color of their skin. Maybe someone can give me their opinion.

Everyone is prejudiced in one way or another--most people just refuse to admit it.

Simply because its all about the society that we live in. In Sociology class about two weeks ago we discussed norms here in America about race. And what is OK to say and not to say. There is BET "Black Entertainment TV" But what if there was a WET "White Entertainment TV". You would hear people yelling Racist. As far as color of skin, alot of our society has been linked to media and what is right and what is wrong. That races get pointed out more than others by the mass media. Which they tend to point out only the bad things, and tend to over rationalize things. Just like myself I like the Confederate Flag, but people see the Confederate Flag as a Social Symbol of racism. Basically the Confederate army was fighting for there Constitution. I would like everyone to read the Confederate Constitution. Then they would have more of an open mind about things instead of claiming that they "heard if from momma". Society will also look at someone of color of skin and associate them with a lower class. You are judged by everything in society, but how you let things influence you is all about personal choice. You can either be educated about the decision and get the facts or be ignorant to the facts and believe what you want.

I don't think anyone should be mistreated for the color of they're skin. Racism is wrong! However if someone said I don't agree with the illegals that are hurting America I don't think that is racism. That is a fact ! Racism is getting bad because( at less where I live) Americans are turn down for jobs because the are Americans of all colors. They work the illegals and lay off the Americans. I don't mind anyone who want to better them self but Please do it the right way. Just my thought on the matter.

I've noticed that too... In today's world there seems to be a lot more of it lately.
Maybe it's the steriotypes that go with the color of skin. Like around where I live kids have the idea that all black people are ghetto and get into drive-by shootings and stuff. But it's not all of them and other races all bind together to involve in that shooting. That's just an example though.

I don't think most racially inspired hate has anything to do with the actual color of the skin. It has to do with a preconceived notion of how people that have that color of skin will act. I believe that some minority cultures in the USA hurt themselves through their behavior, often conforming to what they see on Mtv or BET, etc. Yes, racism can be about ignorance. It can be about ignore behavior too.

Maybe not "hate" but I do pass judgment on certain people based on skin color. Depends on the situation and how many are looking at you when you stop at the wrong gas station off the interstate.

Some people just dont' like certain colors/

If they're gong to breed their Dog, they look at the stud to see if they want that Dog to breed with their female. Why?

The same thing is what brought upon this world a race issue of decisive color or gene that doesn't fit.

it boils down into the simple level of the education, but some are actually smart which just means they have an education but have a very, broad, blurred, dull point of view of others of different skin color.

and sometimes when things go bad, you gotta have a scapegoat.

a quick example would be when women were fighting for their right to vote...the vowed to vote for any bill pertaining to blacks not being allowed to vote again...it wasn't personal, but they needed a stepping stone...and we happen to be around....luckily though, nothing of the such ever came through in the end.

sometimes people just are raised by the wrong people.

I don't understand it either. Maybe it's because they were brainwashed into thinking a certain race is worse then their own or that a race is going to hate them because of history..etc. It's stupid. I'm not racist and I can tell you that for a fact. I don't believe EVERYONE is racist at all, people who say that just can't accept the fact that some people aren't racist and that they just happen to be.

Its often not the colour per se but what that colour represents, a difference of nationality, religion or lifestyle. Worth noting that racism includes anti-semitism even though people of the jewsish faith are technically not a race.

hey, i'm an ethnic studies major at Berkeley and i still dont have the answer to this, nor do any of my professors...well, at least there isn't only ONE answer...there are many...

ethnic studies has taught me that diff. people become racialized in diff. ways and at diff. times for diff. reasons...most of the time it is due to stereotyping and fear of the 'Other'...nowadays, i think ppl try to be racist as a form of rebellion/backlash against the small yet significant steps that ppl of color have made for civil rights and global solidarity...some do it just to go against the poitical correctedness of our day or to be controversial (i.e. Carlos Mencia, Ron Imus in my opinion)

any one can be racist not just whites...and you also have to look at how governmental policy shapes the way we think as well...many fear that 'mexicans are taking our jobs and resources that is straining our economy' thus allowing for passage of very racist laws MASKED as the government trying to protecte the "soveignty" of our nation

let me recommend some books b/c i think they would help you get a better answer (much better than i can explain via Yahoo!)
