No. First, vehement is an adjective, you used it as a noun. The noun version is vehemence. Second, the word doesn't make sense there. The definition is here: intensity or forcefulness of expression; "the vehemence of his denial"; "his emphasis on civil rights". It can be emphasis or forcefulness, especially when talking about beliefs. If some one says something vehemently, they really believe in it. Your sentence should be... I could not help but feel a sense of vehement "insert emotion here" when the defendent... "He had a vehement love of God" is one sentence that works.
