don't forget a short in the ignition switch, the car will turn over but never fire. If you hook wire from the + terminal on your battery to the + wire of the coil and the car starts this is your problem. You can make this work forever as long as you disconnect the wire when you turn off the car. You can use an alligator clip on one end of the wire. It can be a hassle but if you don't have the cash for a new ignition switch, why not?

broken wire from power source, bad connection, or a fuse . have the wire from source to coil check.
