It amazes me at how many Europeans bash the U.S.. Don't they remember how many U.S. soldiers suffered and died fighting the Nazis which their grandparents appeased, empowered, then cowared and hid from? Aren't they greatfult that they aren't all speaking German right now?

And Natasha... When the Nazis marched into Paris, the French surrenderred. It was individual French soldiers who were already integrated into British forces who continued to fight.

I remember seeing an interview on tv with some woman who was over 100 years old. They asked her if she wasn't amazed by all the incredible changes during her life: when she was small, no one in her town even had electricity, and by the end of her life we had already put a man on the moon.

Her answer was so surprising. She said nothing really amazed her because life just happened one day at a time. It was such a slow progression that nothing seemed like an incredible advancement, even in retrospect.

That is my prelude to describing the European mindset. I am now living in the Czech Republic. I fully expected that people here would talk a lot about Communism, which they detested. However, if you ask the typical person, they're not even sure how or why it ended ! To them, it was just all a bad dream, and they try not to relive it. Their lack of interest almost seems like post traumatic shock or something.

Europeans are increasingly non-Nationalistic. For example, no one in the Czech Republic would fly their own flag, even on their Independence day. To do so would raise eyebrows that you are some sort of ultra-nationalist zealot. A lot of Europeans don't even want to be identified as Italian, Czech, Polish, but simply as a European. It's almost as if they don't think their own county is that important, but if they identify with the massive EU, then they are part of something vibrant and powerful.

If you're waiting for gratitude from the Europeans, forget it. They just don't think that way. To them, it is ancient history.

Of course they remember that, that doesn't mean they have to agree with foreign policy that is obviously disruptive. By your logic, the French could say "Why do you forget we helped you gain independence from the British? Don't you remember how many French soldiers suffered and died fighting the Redcoats which your ancestors were subjects of? Aren't you "greatfult" that you aren't a British subject right now?"

It works both ways, using your logic. I would suggest you really learn more about world politics and other cultures, and try to think of WHY people would not support a ridiculous venture like going into Iraq for no reason.

Stop standing on the backs on men greater than yourself. You didn't fight in that war. So stop taking credit for it.

If you would pick up a book now and then you would know that a large number of Europeans speak German today they are called Germans. This is why Europeans criticize us because we say the dumbest things wrapped in a red white and blue flag. To you that makes it unquestionable. The Europeans are our friends and allies, they are not our sheep. But I question if your just a sheep repeating the President's line. Its like you're a White House Cheerleader...Baaaaaaaaa

You do remember that the US only joined in with the war because the Japanese bashed Pearl harbour, otherwise, we wouldn't have got your help would we?
And btw, it was the French that helped the English in the war, and it wasn't just the Americans who helped, coz I believe that if the Nazi's wouldn't have went to Russia and went to us instead, your help wouldn't have made any difference and we would be speaking German now!

More importantly it was American money that financed the war against the Third Reich as well as the post-war reconstruction of Europe. Only one country has ever repaid the money from reconstruction.

i think we need to give a big hand to the russians. 20 million dead? thats rediculous. what did we have, 400,000? thats paltry. and honestly, if your best friend stops someone from beating you up and then crashes your car, aren't you still angry?
the USA needs to step off its high horse and admit that we were wrong in Iraq. we may have the best military, but that doesnt matter when it is bogged down in one big **** up.

How can they forget, Americans like you are constantly rubbing it in their face. You forget that it wasn't YOU that saved them from Naziism. And, it certainly wasn't Bush that saved them from Naziism or terrorism of today. It sounds like you are forgetting alot more than you claim they did.
To the previous poster. If you don't think Europeans are successful, then you've never ever been to Europe and you don't know what you are talking about. Trust me, they are not jealous of us. BTW, the Russians lost alot more fighting against the Nazi's than the Americans did in that war. Perhaps you need that taste of reality as well.

In Total Agreement.

They hate us because we are successful. It is more jealousy. Just like everyone loves to see rich people suffer in a scandal, its the stick it to them mentality cause you do not have what they have.

What is also "odd" ... they dislike us, but love our money and foreign aid, right? I say cut everyone off. keep the money at home.

I am glad to be an American! It is the greatest country in the world!
