Overall, I'd suggest that your friends go for the name they TRULY love best (even if it has an L or R in it.) Will the grandparents see the child alot? If so, maybe they can come up with a special nickname for the child or call him/her by its middle name :) It would be ashame to pass up their favorite names because of this. I am sure the grandparents would not mind.

Sounds like your friend's grandparents are Asian, so L and R may not be the only sounds they have a hard time with. My daughter's name is Tiffany, however, her Asian relatives call her Tippany. If the sound is at the end, normally, that is not an issue. Here goes with a few:
Boys: Christopher (Chris), Daniel (Dan), Edward (Ed), Patrick (Pat), Thomas (Tom), Theo, Timothy (Tim)
Girls: Beatrice (Bea), Cindy, Constance (Connie), Heather, Kimber (Kim) which is a very easy name for Asians, Nancy, Opal, Patty
Good Luck!

Tell her to not stop herself from naming her baby with an L or R...the grandparents can help think of a nickname to call the baby if they cannot pronounce it.
My fiance's grandparents are from Cuba and he said that they may have an issue pronouncing Zoe correctly, BUT if we do have a girl, we're still going to name her that. Grandparents can call her by her middle name of Nicole (which is my first name) if they want. Or they can think of a cutesy nick name to call her.
Btw, I'm 7 weeks along so I have a long time to think of a nickname for the grandparents. lol
