I've opened a checking and a saving account with Wells Fargo a couple weeks ago. And on the statement, they charged me for the checkbook!

Has anyone else has the same experience? That's MEAN!!!

Pretty much any bank will charge you an exorbitant fee for check because that is what the preferred printer or checks for most banks, Harland, charges them.

A better alternative is any of the checks you will find in with your coupons in the Sunday paper that offer like "$1.95 per box of checks"...most have where you can order up to 4 boxes at a time and their full price check box charges is probably 40-50% less than the Bank will charge you.

Another option is to check into internet banking and find out if there are any fees under your checking plan; many banks have free internet banking functions where you can set up to have your bills paid automatically from your checking account (if so, is always a good idea to apply for the overdraft protection option, which is a line of credit, although a bit pricy, that automatically advances monies from the line to cover any possible overdrafts, saving you a fortune in overdraft fees if you make a small error in balancing your checkbook and overdraw your account).

When you say 'Checkbook' do you mean the Actual check or the Vinal cover? If you mean the cover then that IS mean. But for your checks, that is normal as there is a printing fee the bank normally passes on to you.

PS: I would put my money in a mattress before I ever banked with wells Fargo Again. LOOOOOOONG story. My advice, get out while you can.

I don't know about their checking and savings but I do know, in general they charge, HIGH interest, and earn their money charging you to pieces. Many places offer free checking and savings. I suggest when you can, try one of those instead. Please note that usually if you close a new checking account before (normally) 90 days you will pay a hefty fee and with Wells Fargo, I'm sure you will.

Most banks charge for checks. They typically only give deposit slips for free.

Almost every bank charges for checks.

It's not mean, it's business, they have to pay for them, why should you get them for free?
