To make matters worse, we will end up losing Dr's. and will end up with fewer who will be willing to spend years in school just to end up getting screwed. Between this stuff and law suits, I wouldn't want to be a Dr. in today's world.
People don't seem to understand that the countries with socialized medicine are failing. The system means waiting in lines, waiting months for procedures, fewer physicians who are overworked.
If the rewards aren't there, why bother? Socialism takes away the rewards.

Socialized Medicine is already partly here??? What planet do you live on? I have a co-pay of $10.00 with an HMO and I have a great doctor. And, the hospital is fantastic. Are there problems? I'm sure there are. Is it perfect? I'm absolutely sure it is not. But I've always received great care there. And, so has my husband, his mother and sister. Actually, I know alot of people who belong to this HMO and they all have had great care. And, even if they question their doctor's decision they have gone out of the HMO for healthcare to a University Hospital and the HMO still paid for it. You sound like you need a new HMO.
I say take the middle man out of the picture, the insurance agencies, and that would lower health care costs right there and there could be Universal health care for everyone in the country. Especially if we'd stop having over 40% of every tax dollar go to the Military industrial corporate complex like it is now, and that doesn't even include the cost of this war in Iraq. It would be very affordable without raising taxes.

Why not public medicine for those who want it and private medicine for those who can afford it and don't think public services can be made efficient? A public ( "socialized" ) component of health care won't harm the private sector health care any more than the post office hurts UPS or other private shipping companies.
We spend trillions to defend everyone against enemies who MIGHT attack, but can be deterred and sometimes negotiated with (and I'm not saying we shouldn't do that.) How is it wrong to spend as much or more to fight diseases that can't be deterred or negotiated with and that definately can and will kill millions of Americans each year?
Maybe we should be talking of drafting people into a national medical corps, like there is talk of drafting people into the army.
Some limits on malpractice awards might also be a good idea, but the limits proposed by the administration seem too little, if I understand them right.

A partial solution would be to cut off every illegal from public assistance--including food stamps, TANF, and health care (life threatening emergency medical treatment would still be available before they're deported). Public assistance needs to be for US CITIZENS ONLY. Take away the free candy and the kids will go home.

No. What's costing us billions is Bush's "pray you don't get sick" healthcare bills. The same ones which are sucking the American taxpayer dry and giving billions to the prescription-drugcare industry.
What do you have against universal healthcare anyway?

Actually, universal healthcare will work. Look at France, they have the world's best health system according to the WHO, but they use universal healthcare which is essentially free for those who need it most and covers everyone. We should adopt their system.

Probably make laws to hold insurance companies accountable as much as doctors are, but we all know that will not happen!

The medical industry will never be fixed unless it is scrapped and restarted from scratch, which will never happen.
