What is light? Photons, in the language of science. Licht in German. Luz in Spanish. свет in Russian.
I doubt that helps much. Energy packets, quanta, electromagnetic waves... Actually, Anderson's "electromagnetic waves" is a pretty good explanation, if you understand what those are. They include x rays, ultraviolet, infrared (heat), microwaves, and radio waves (in no particular order). Sort these by spectrum and a small slice represents visible light. Radio waves shine through wood and brick, if it isn't too thick.
Light has some extremely peculiar properties, and I would strongly urge you to explore those for yourself, starting with the photoelectric effect. I dare say there are any physicists who really have a good idea exactly what light is. Einstein gave us great new insights into the nature of light. Perhaps some day you may do the same.

Light is a substance that we receive from the sun or other energy sources that move as a flux falling on and reflected from objects mapping out their shape and colors. When this flux reaches our eyes it goes thru a lens system and receptor and brains which enables us to interpret what we see.
It was the first mass substance created in the Universe according to the Blibical Record of Creation.
When a man really Undersdand the Light ;it is said he has seen the Light. There is a physical light and a Spiritual Light.

Light is composed of photons. Photons are small packets of energy that are in turn composed of a magnetic wave and an electric wave intertwined. Light is therefore also called electromagnetic radiation. The light we see is only a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum.
