That is simply not true. AT ALL. It was fake, part of a made-up interview. I pointed out the same thing to Q magazine when they were stupid enough to include it recently, and got printed. I wrote something along the lines of:
"I agree with you that serial dog-botherer Mariah Carey is several sandwiches short of a picnic. However, this page clears up the pointless hoohah about Carey making idiotic comments about starving kids. She didn't.
This particular quote started as a spoof interview on the Cupcake website - the quote is completely made up.
Shortly after it appeared on the site, British tabloids picked up the quote. From there, the BBC's Radio 1 quoted the tabloid story, again without verifying the source. The story became huge and has appeared in various other publications.... including your own.
I'm not sure if this is a story about the power of the Web or the weakness of the media...your guess?
Next time, check your sources."

Since you may NOT know (but I think you do) this was a quote attributed to her in a fictitious (satirical) interview produced about ten years ago. The media, which never let the facts stand in the way of a good story, soon reported this widely as if it were fact and she received quite some stick because of it ... blah, blah, blahdy blah .....

doloresandtheprune and wildamber are correct and the rest of you shouldn't fall for stupid spoof interviews. This was not a quote from Carey, it was a satirical fake interview!
