It seems to me that Time's Person of the Year is not always set to highlight people who are clasically good or evil but rather that have a major impact in some way and of course that would include Hitler. Bush was named at a time when he was popular and now of course, unpopular.
The Nobel was of course named for Alfred who invented exposives which may have killed thousands. Carter has had a greater Ex-Presidency that Presidency and won the Nobel for his works post office.

Yep... the Nobel Peace Prize is a ridiculous parody of what it should be. Alfred Nobel should sue from the grave to correct that travesty.

Both are still valid. There is still relative peace between Egypt and Israel. Regarding Hitler, there's no requirement that the Man of the Year be a force for good...only that he be a force at all.

Man of the Year is bestowed upon the year's biggest newsmaker, not the 'Best Man of the Year'. In such cases as Hitler's and Ayatollah Khomeini's, the Time staff calls it 'Year of the Villian'.

Yes, he was and is a great peacemaker, but was really not qualified to be an effective President. Hate to say it but you have to be mean or have somewhat of a mean streak in you to be President. It's really only the effective way to deal with some of the world leaders out there who are ruthless.

You're comparing the man who systematically killed 6 million innocent Jews with the man who spend years building homes for the homeless?

Failures? People still talk of them and they are heroes to millions of people.
On the other hand, the day you die, no one will care.
