The last C3's had that engine in 1982 (not sure about 81), and then only the first C4's (1984).

The 1984 Corvette is without a doubt the worst C4 Corvette. In 1985 Chevy made significant improvements to the structure, suspension, and got rid of that so called Crossfire injection engine. They went from 205 to 230 hp in that one year alone. The 85 is a better car in every way, and they only contined to improve after that.

That being said - are you looking at a Corvette for the style, or for the drive? The 84 looks the same, but can certainly be had for less money, so depending on why you want one, the 84 might be OK.

I believe they had it for 5 years before the TPI came out in 85. Its not a bad system if you fix it up, but it doesn't do anything for power or economy compared to the TPI or the tried and true Quadrajet. I've heard of people modifying the Cross fire with Accel dfi or Holley computers which is supposed to be a good upgrade.

Either way they can be reliable if you fix it up and keep doing all the maintance before it goes to far. Remeber they used to be new and warrantys issued so they can still be reliable if you want to get into it up to your elbows.

the advantages is having a car that is well kept will increase in value (if put up, keep the miles low, etc). the disadvantages are finding parts in the future to keep it running, i'm talking original parts, so if you plan on saving this car for the future, get some parts for it now and save them.
you really don't want to drive the car much, just a little to keep everything lubed and to see if everything is working.
hope this helps.

Couple of sites for crossfire owners--84 was much better than the old style body 82 but still had it's problems although many see them as unique like the old Rochester fuelie's of the 60's

some claim by being in overdrive you get better fuel and more power. the power might be true but the fuel makes no sense unless ur on the highway. all it is is a 5th gear so the car gets better fuel. around town you wont notice a difference.
