I just got a router to share my internet connection. I followed the instructions on the CD and got to the point where it checks connectivity. It said that it can't connect to the internet. The router is a: Buffalo Wireless G 125 High-Speed. I have Comcast High-Speed Internet. I need to get the internet to work! Can you tell me how to fix it?

Before doing any of the following, unplug the modem, unplug the router. Wait ONE full minute. Reconnect the modem wait for all lights to settle down -- usually about 1-2minutes. Plug in the router and wait to see if the internet light comes on. Then check the connection.

If that fails log into the router and be sure you have selected DHCP as the connection type. Then try release and renew and see if it pulls a valid address.

If that fails, copy the MAC address of your computer into the routers MAC address field and restart the router. Some cable companies authorize by MAC so cloning the address will authorize the router.

By the way that is a really nice router and works really well!

Check your connection protocol settings with those of your ISP. An incorrect setting will prevent it connecting. There are some cases where a firmware upgrade is needed to match any non-standard protocol combinations. There is a diagnostic page in the configuration which will give details of the failure, your ISP or the manufacturer will be able to identify the problem from this.

If you are using DSL, you will need to enter your ISPs login information into the router, using the PPPoE option. If you do have a firewall, you need to configure it to work with your router, don't just turn it off as that defeats the purpose of it. You can however, turn it off for a few minutes to see if it is indeed the problem.

first thing you need to do is not listen to these amateur answers, if you have a 3rd party firewall, anti-virus, etc. TURN IT OFF!
