This is a absurd question and I hope you’re not serious. Taxing unnecessary and dangerous products like cigarettes is always a good idea. If more poor people stop smoking as a result that would be a good thing. If people choose to spend their hard earned money on lotteries, then the government makes money that can be used for useful social programs rather than going to the criminal element that operated illegal numbers rackets. As for casinos, absolutely no one can claim that casino gambling is vital to their basic survival unless they have serious mental issues, which should be appropriately dealt with.
The Bush tax cuts for the rich were unnecessary and we are running budget deficits every year. Those deficits contribute further to the debt which has to be paid back.

I'm sorry. Did you just say "Bush gives tax breaks to the rich who do pay the majority of income taxes in the first place?"
Ha.
The wealthy are still fleeing this great nation because they can't get what they want from the IRS.
The rich haven't paid their fair share of income taxes for over a century now.
And as for doing something meaningful, how about a real tax break for the middle class! No lip service breaks that are eaten up by the cost of living and feeble attempts to save for retirement.
Poverty sucks. But personal responsibility still matters in a society. Don't like lotteries and casino gambling? Don't go there!

Those kinds of taxed are actually constitutional, because they are indirect taxes that are uniform throughout all the states, which is one of the two types of taxes the constitution allows for. You are free to choose whether or not you pay that type of tax, by whether or not you choose to smoke or gamble. for example. That is one main reason why this liberal is 1000% in favor of the immediate replacement of the income tax, with the Fair Tax! And it cannot happen soon enough to suit me! LZ

those are some pretty gross generalizations....
1. So you're saying that only poor people smoke? that just isn't true and you know it...people choose to smoke, no one is holding a gun to their head making them do it.
2. Rich people buy lottery tickets too, they gamble more than poor people as well because they have the money to.

those are taxes on luxuries that you can choose...
give me those any day... I don't smoke and I rarely gamble... and if I did it's my choice?
the rich make the majority of the money... and complain the VAST MAJORITY of the time about paying the majority of the taxes...
oh boo hoo... what problems they have...
AND JUST AS A SIDE NOTE.... I live in S.C... we have lotteries, casinos and are apparently about to raise the tax on tobacco by several hundred percent... and that's pretty much about 80 PERCENT CONSERVATIVE residents and represenatives...
so, is S.C. a liberal state in your mind?

1) The cigarette tax is to pay for the bill when poor people have the state pay for their medical bills from cigarette related illness.
2) People who are poor yet waste money on lottery tickets and gambling (and cigarettes) maybe should learn to manage their money better.
Cigarettes and lottery tickets are luxuries, not necessities.

I hate to disappoint you, but the rich corporations pay no taxes at all. They can estimate the amount of taxes they will have to pay and add that to the product they are selling, the consumer pays all the taxes. Illusions are a mother Focker my boy!!!

Personally I think they are great taxes. I do not pay either of them. As I do not smoke or gamble. All taxes should be this optional.

1. It's not just poor people who buy tobacco products. Also, anyone who buys them CHOOSES to do so and isn't forced.
2. Actually, there are plenty of rich people who like lotteries and gambling. If you don't believe me, ask Bill Bennett.
