Well, you don't say where you live, but Ficus trees are hardy in a very big range of temperatures/climates. You can get a small one at your local nursery for under $50. They grow relatively quick and need no special care. Just some water.

Do NOT take trees, plants or flowers from the woods, parks or other peoples' yards. It is illegal. I absolutely crave a rose bush of my neighbor's, and have often fantasized about taking it from them, and putting it in my own yard. However, as fun as the fantasy may be to imagine that beautiful bush in my yard, I would just never do it. It would kill me if someone took one of my plants, although people do take cuttings from me all the time (some ask, some don't).

Every year, in Spring, I set aside about $60 to buy new plants with. It takes some time to get things the way I want them, but it also gives me time to learn to care for each new plant.

NO, don't go to the public woods for some. If you are caught, you can be fined. Its like going to the park and digging up a tree.

Pine trees are tough sturdy trees. They live a long time and don't need much attention.

A cheap option is to join the National Arbor foundation - For a $10 membership they will sned you 10 free trees.

If you want to join, they also sell trees on thier web site for pretty cheap. 1 foot seedings are about $3 - $5 each

The link to their web page is below

I'm sure you can go to any landscaping or flower shop and get a tree.

Yes, I'm sure you can go into the woods and get saplings. I recommend maple trees. We live in central Illinois, and lots of times, near the rivers, you can find dozens of saplings that are perfectly good to transplant into your yard. That's how we got a lot of ours. Just make sure the land you're taking the tree from is not private property! I'm not sure about laws from state to state, but I'm pretty sure it's not illegal to take trees from the woods. You might want to look it up, though.

You can go to either Home Depot, Lowes, or the garden department of Wal-Mart or K-Mart.

Erase the idea of going to the woods to dig a tree up...

Its much easier to go to a nursery and pick a good tree. Trying to dig and transplat a tree is no easy feat, and trying to do it from public land will cost you more than its worth
