Is knowledge really power? How many PhD's are wealthy? How many librarians have millions in their bank account? How many geniuses end up doing nothing with their lives? Money is real power in today's society.

Are the ignorant in bliss? What if the ignorant are in pain and don't know the cure, if they are bullied and don't know how to stop it, if they are forced out of their home due to some ignorant non-action? How about those in the 1950s who smoked themselves to death and didn't know why the got lung cancer.

These statements are only accurate in certain conditions.

Hmmm well which is more accurate or which is correct? These are different questions, correct would imply that there is a concrete answer and there is not, so I'll answer which is more accurate. You cannot say that ignorance is not bliss. Bliss is relative. What makes me happy may not make you happy. You can be happy with or without knowledge, though you may prefer to have knowledge. One is about happiness and one is about power.Power is the ability to create change, to influence. This cannot always happen without knowledge. Although you can change certain things without knowledge, it is knowing what to change and how to change it(knowledge) that will allow you to change so much more. So in conclusion knowledge is power is more accurate because you can change more with knowledge, no matter who you are. Ignorance can be bliss and knowledge doesn't always mean power, but knowledge means power much more often than ignorance means bliss.

I believe that " Knowledge is power " is always better then " Ignorance is Bliss "

People can achieve so much with Knowledge... Being ignorant will only make people stagnant and unproductive. People would never evolve and grow.

But, once in awhile ignorance can be a good thing.... for the simple fact that if you are not aware of something, like for example, a terrible accident that might have happened to someone then you wouldn't feel sad about it... like the saying goes... " what people don't know, wont hurt them ".... in this case it helps.....

Knowledge is power: Most of what we know about current affairs around the world is delivered to us via media like TV, radio & newspapers. There are people (and institutions) out there who have the power to decide what gets published, so they have control over our opinions. These are the people who have the power.

Ignorance is bliss: So are you happy that you know that any of these could cause the world to end for you at any given moment? An asteroid, a supervolcano, nuclear war, global warming, a tsunami, sun turning supernova, a black hole, terrorism etc. I believe we are more aware of our mortality nowadays than we have ever been before, yet the world we live in is actually safer. We have conquered most disease, we have enough food, and the neighbouring tribe is not on a warpath.

The answers posted to this question are an example of Ignorance is Bliss.

The origin of the phrase was taken from a Mark Twain story about an intelligent girl who hid her brains in an ignorant village. She did not waste time arguing with fools. Thus said, "Where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise."

The Phrase Knowledge is Power comes from the Bible. There are too many passages to quote the here but one of the many says "The fear (Knowledge) of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom (Power)."

All I will say on the matter is no-one can know everything! Therefore we are all a little blissful in our own ignorance and also when we gain a little knowledge it makes us feel a little powerful! Also if we were never ignorant we would never understand what it was to GAIN knowledge in the first place! I think the two go hand in hand!

Ignorance is bliss until the truth becomes reality for you and bites you in the butt, and you were too ignorant to be prepared for it. Knowledge is power to a certain point, but a person can only go so far with knowledge alone. There is more to our evolving than just knowledge. It is applied knowledge that then becomes wisdom. That is true power.

The more spiritual intrinsic objective the knowledge is the more it connects back both ways into all knowledge. It's about from the basis of any foundation, breaking down walls. Nothing is separate or dualistic. Resolution of experience and seeing it in place. All is one. Full life is all life. It's to do with the nature of "nothing" as it exists in motion and in everything in the whole of reality, the creative and loving nature, and through calm positivity undoing the ties that can keep one from that. Breaking down the walls. Or dream-realities can transform to something better more intrinsic and all inclusive. So the progressive loss of self and loss of individual life and individual reality is the progressive gaining of Self, all life and all reality. Root of self is the one that really guides and is all positive and for everything at once. And the thing about institutions is that some are elitist and deny all reality and do the opposite with double-binds and force, and some counteract that effect to protect people from it. So they both have their place in human evolution and the discernment of the difference until the hierarchy is non-competitve and the right way up and shareable and holistic, lift up, connect integrate, and inclusive of the whole of reality from a spiritual intrinsic perspective, (which the opposite secular elitist extreme image power status and control, non-reality, double-bind and harmful physical force based institutions like the least and are most persistent and aggressive about). But those kinds of institutions are powerless in the long run, because they just keep revealing what they obviously are anyway, because they always go after the most useful calm positive constructive resilient and indestructible things to try to destroy and the image mask comes off. The "spirit" can't be destroyed. It's kind of like Captain Scarlet on the old kids program, or Doctor Who going through multiple regenerations. And it's that way up really. "Spirit with body, not body with spirit" on all levels. Knowledge goes beyond knowledge and good seeds spread. Wisdom is not one sided or subjective, it's intrinsically based, empathic and all sided and applicable. Spiritual=natural, universal on a universal objective and inclusive truth basis. Nothing is ever lost. The knowledge is non-comparative and vanishing, but with all partial knowledge around it, understanding and awareness.

I think that both are correct, if you have ignorance you don't have to worry about somethings and that makes it easier in some ways, knowledge is power but only in the extent that you can impart it to others, if you can not do this then it is worthless or maybe only beneficial to you. If it is your appointed task to try to impart it then it can be hell if there are others who don't want to understand or don't want you to help others understand because they can make your life miserable for you in some ways. You also have to examine and reexamine your own knowledge all the time so that you know that you are right and until you get use to sharing it with others there are a lot of obstacles that you have to overcome. With self comes the ability to be insecure or to be over secure and finding the middle ground is not always easy either.

Knowledge is only power if you know something others don't and also how to use that to your advantage. Ignorance on the other hand is often bliss. How many times have you found out something you wish you never knew??
