It's a 3 year old Latitude 800 that apparently only recognizes WEP. Thanks.

You need to go into your router setup screen and change your encryption from WEP to WAP. It doesn't have anything to do with your PC. If your router doesn't have the WAP standard, you should be thinking about getting a new one.

Your router needs to be set up with a WPA key, then the card should ask for this key. 3-year-old cards generally do have support for WPA. If yours fails you may need to download new firmware for the card, as sometimes the original did not comply well with the standards. If you have to use it there is no real problem with using WEP, for normal use a 128 bit key entered in hex (numbers 0-9 and letters A-F) is enough to keep the crackers away, they won't waste time on it when there are so many open systems. It is more secure than WPA with a weak passphrase

Some older wireless cards did not have the firmware to support WPA. If this is the case with your Latitude, the easiest fix is to get a wireless pcmcia card or a USB wireless adapter and use it in place of the internal card.

That way you can use WPA. The cards or USB adapters are not that expensive and will have updated firmware. .

I think you need to enable WPA ( !WAP) on the router console and then try to connect. It must work, coz the protocol used to connect is Phase Shift Keying which doesn't depends upon the computer itself.
