Too many reasons to list but here are a few which I think are important ones in no particular order. Since the 60's when tv and adverstising really took off, we have been bombarded with ads that depict models that are not representative of average people and products that will supposedly make us look like them and achieve happiness. Everyone has to eat and most of us enjoy eating and certain foods we enjoy. For the people that have no real weight problem, it is very easy for them to say to someone who is overweight why don't they just lose it. They have never had to actually try to lose a good deal of weight, give up foods they enjoy, so they have no comprehsion on how difficult it is. Then others say exercise. All one has to do is look at want ads, garage sales, flea markets etc to see how many pieces of exercise equipment is for sale. People have good intentions but the truth is, it is very hard to get and stay in an exercise routine. Losing weight is very difficult and keeping it off is harder. It is a lifelong battle.
Some people are mean just because. They are mean to anyone for any reason. Others to make themselves look better.
As I said, too many to list, these are just a few off the top of my head.

Some people are just mean. It makes me so mad to see other females or males make fun of someone becasue of their apperance. I think its immature. Also why laugh at someone just becuse they are what you call fat? You dont know that person's situation. It could be a medical condition.

they want to make fun of fat people because they have a problem with themself and they want to take it out on the fat person cos its easy and they have a low selfasteem...but the main thing is they fear what they dont understand...i have a few good friends and they are fat and people dont like it when we are together but i dont care cos they are my friends and they meen the world to me and i dont give a *$#@ what other people say...

Look, if a person were bald from chemotherapy, or they were missing a leg from fighting in a war, I would have compassion for them. I'm not the skinniest guy in the world, but I do exercise to stay in shape, and I can't understand why anyone would let themselves get that large and not try to do something about it. Obesity leads to heart disease, joint problems, stroke and diabetes. Just as I make fun of people who are morons, I will continue to make fun of people who, despite knowledge of the damage they are doing to themselves, refuse to even try and lose weight.

I don't think there is a good reason. I believe that some people do it out of their own insecurities, some do it because it makes them feel better about them self, some just because they are ignorant.

Probably because some people are just naturally nasty, and are labouring under some kind of misapprehension that they themselves, are perfect
