doug r - you said "What Im saying is If you want to get your point across YOU have to march You have to spread the word. They did it in the 60's and 70's in RECORD NUMBERS why cant we do it .We do have a better means of COMMUNICATION NOW!!"

I think it is that these same people who did this are all in their 50s and 60's now. Today's youth for the most part are not like the people of the 60's and 70's. That's probably why... a return to materialism has occurred.

On a future history treatise of the USA, on those parts related to President GWB, the most telling line will be "he presided over the beginning of the end of the American empire".
Those points in history which mark an important beginning are not recognized as such until many, many years later.
Looking at the history of the declines of previous empires, it is not presumptuous to say, that it has happened before and the similarities abound.

The incompetence of his administration during Katrina and especially 9/11. He will be remembered as the president who failed to act while the twin towers collapsed. He will also be remembered as the man who initiated a personal war against Iraq. A man who sacrificed 4000 US soldiers to attack a country that never attacked us. Thats how he will be remembered.

The President who inherited the largest surplus in history and turned it into the biggest deficit in history. The President who took us into a war in which we had no national interest. The President who treated illegal immigrants much better than legal immigrants. The most hostile President to states' rights since Abraham Lincoln.

One of criminality, obstruction, and utter failure on the part of our congress to stop it.

This doesn't have to stand. America has exhibited true greatness in the past. Think of the American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence , and the Constitution. This is the nation that spawned the Abolitionist Movement. The powerful Labor Movement arose in the Twentieth Century and claimed unprecedented rights and protections for the working class. The Civil Rights Movement made powerful gains for minorities and the oppressed. Women won the right to vote. Populists made strides for farmers and the working class. Anti-war protestors broke the will of the military industrial complex to continue their genocidal "pacification" of the Vietnamese. Progressives have been a significant force for social changes to benefit humanity since the 1890's. There are still champions for the oppressed in America and spiritually enlightened values are woven into the fabric of our culture.

We the People have a choice. We can bend to the will of the hectors who have stolen the soul of our nation or we can follow the example of our predecessors and work vigorously to reclaim our humanity. Borrowing the words of a blue blood of American aristocrats, Nancy Reagan, I say it is time to "just say no" to Ameri-Soma. Actually, Lady Nancy's statement was grossly over-simplified. In addition to saying no, one also needs to replace the behaviors associated with the addiction.
