NO, as far as I am concerned its a scam. They are old, and heavy and the only reason they are still around is because they are so cheap to make and for the people who do buy them there is a tremendous profit margin.
You have to figure Dirt Devil, Hoover, Bissel, and Dyson are all run by fairly large home improvement companies like a Black and Decker who have a good reputation and supply products with warranty and legitimate information. Vendors will carry this names unlike probably a Kirby because of the discrepancies involved with that company. My friend tried to do the Kirby thing just a huge scam. The prices will start off at 2000 and by the time the customer says they dont want it 5 times it might be down to 800. Plus they take advantage of older people and have very, very controversial sales tactics to get you to spend outragious amount of money for a vaccuum. So you and your neighbor may have gotten the same vaccuum buy you might have paid double for yours. You can buy a top of the line vaccuum covered by a warranty with a decent company and save a couple hundred dollars by not buying a kirby.

I have a Kirby, and its great. You an definitely find it for less then a grand. you can get in online for less at eBay, but it won't have the lifetime warranty. But some of the more expensive hoovers and such are really just about as good. The big selling point for me was just how much dust and such came out from under my carpet, IT WAS GROSS. And I had a fairly good dirt devil. Since i have started with the Kirby Sentra, I have noticed that my house it a less dusty. But it was still a lot of money for a vacuum.

a long time ago i applied for a job position and found out it was to be selling kirby vacuums. we learned how to do the demonstrations and all and they really will go over your old vacuums work and catch so much more dirt, but i felt bad when i found out how much they cost. they really want you to pressure someone to buy and thats not me. They start at $2000 which is ridiculous for a vacuum. And the first guy is right, its a sales gimmick they will give them to you for whatever it takes to get a sale, keep saying no & the price is very negotiable. Its not worth $2000, i personally wouldnt even pay $400 for a vacumn.

I used to have a couple of Kirby's, and really loved them. Yes, they are expensive! The only thing I hated about the Kirby was when I had to change the belt. It is very hard to change the belts on them. I would get another one if I could find a used one, that wasn't a ridiculous price.

Yes I am, my mom bought one of those very expensive, very heavy vacuums when I was younger. Now she's got a dirt devil. :-) And so do I... It never seemed to do what the salesman said it would and it was a b**ch to carry upstairs!

I have had a Kirby for a few years and it is very good. Only drawback is it is heavy... Apart from that it is worth every cent I paid for it.
